International friendly round up for Wednesday, October 7, 2020

The International break saw some nations in a face-off with each other in an international friendly.

Topsides like Spain, Portugal and France were in action against certain opposition. While other sides like Poland, Croatia and Denmark claimed important win last night ahead of next week UEFA Nations League.

Following some of the interesting round of friendly matches that took place on Wednesday (the 7th of October), DAILY POST takes a look at some of these matches even as some other fixtures are also slated for today.

Cyprus 1-2 Czech Republic

The home side lost 1-2 to the Czech Republic as goals from Tomas Holes and Vladimir Darida (penalty) in the 13th and 43rd minute respectively saw the Czech side emerge 2-1 winners in the friendly tie.

However, Loizos Loizon had initially equalized for Cyprus in the 32nd minutes of the game.

Denmark 4-0 Faroe Islands

The Danish side were 4-0 winners at home, thanks to goals from Andreas Shov Olsen in the 22nd minute before Christian Eriksen made it 2-0 from the spot just five minutes later.

Joakim Maehle and Andreas Cornelius completed the routing in the 32nd and 45th minute of the first half for the Danish side.

Germany 3-3 Turkey

Germany were without Chelsea forward, Timo Werner as they drew 3-3 at the Rhein Energie Stadio in Cologne with Turkey.

Goals from Ozlan Tufan, Efecan Karaca and Kenan Karaman for Turkey cancelled out strikes from Julian Draxler, Neuhaus Florian and Gian-luca Waldschmidt for Germany.

Chelsea’s Kai Havertz was substituted at the 90th minutes of the match.

Italy 6-0 Moldova

Roberto Mancini’s side ran riot in a 6-0 winners over Moldova on Wednesday night. Italy’s Stephan El Sharaarawy scored a brace in the 30th and the 45th minute.

While goals from Bryan Cristiante, Francesco Caputo, Domenico Berardi in the 18th, 23rd and 72nd minute coupled with an own goal from Moldova’s Veaceslav Posmac made it 6-0 in Italy’s favour.

Netherlands 0-1 Mexico

Frank Do Boer’s lost his first match as coach of the Orange (Dutch) side 0-1 to North American side Mexico as he replaces Ronald Koeman in the Holland job.

Raul Jimenez converted from the penalty spot at the hour mark to seal a vital 0-1 win for his México side in the international friendly.

Portugal 0-0 Spain

Cristiano Ronaldo led Portugal drew 0-0 with Luis Enrique’s La Roja side at the Estadio Jose Alvalde.

It was a highly contested affair between both European heavyweights as it finished in a stalemate.

Cristiano Ronaldo was substituted for Athletico Madrid’s Joao Felix in the 72nd minute of the encounter.

Switzerland 1-2 Croatia

The Swiss side lost 1-2 to World Cup Finalist, Croatia in an international friendly. Mario Gavranovic opened the scoring for Granit Xhaka led Switzerland in the 31st minute.

But it wasn’t enough as a goal in each half from Josip Brekalo and Mario Pasalic in the 42nd and 66 minute earned the Croats a 1-2 win over the Swiss side.

France 7-1 Ukraine

The World Champions France outplayed Andriy Shevchenko’s Ukraine side on Wednesday night. Eduardo Canavinga opened the scoring for France in the 9th minute.

Giroud then followed it up with a brace in the 24th and 34th minutes. An own goal from Vitalii Mylenko made it 4-0 for Didier Deschamps side.

Further goals from Corentin Tolisso, Kylian Mbappe and Barcelona’s Antoine Greizmann ensured that France hit the back of the net 7 times against Ukraine.

Ukraine’s Viktor Tsigankov scored a consolatory goal midway in the second half to ensure damage limitation for his Ukraine side in the friendly.
