EXCLUSIVE: How I Became Captain At Boavista- Awaziem

Awaziem disclosed this during an exclusive chat with Completesports.com at Ilashe, Lagos, during an event organised by 33 Export Lager Beer to host the Super Eagles.

The 24-year-old joined Boavista on loan from Portuguese Primeira Liga giants FC Porto in 2020.

This season Awaziem has made 19 appearances for Boavista in the league and two in the Cup.

Awaziem stated that he is happy with current club Boavista and hope he will get a permanent place soon.

“I’m really okay with the way I’m going, I think I’m making good progress and doing well. I just want a place where I can feature and get enough playing time and where I am I’m getting a lot of it and I’m happy about it and I hope very soon I will get a permanent place.”

On why the Eagles went all out against Benin Republic despite already securing qualification:”We were aware that we had qualified but we want to top the table with a big margin. We want to keep our winning streak going so we had to play well to win.”

On the game against Benin and how the Eagles eventually managed to come out tops:”The game against Benin Republic wasn’t easy because they wanted to win as well to qualify. So they needed a point to qualify and we also wanted to win. They were defending and trying to play on the counter but we were smart enough to hold them back and try to get the winning goal.”

And on expectations at next year’s AFCON in Cameroon which will be second:”We are looking forward to bringing the trophy back home. We really want to win the AFCON again in order to write our name in history and I think everyone is ready for that. We are going all out for the AFCON next year.”
