Arteta Aims To Win Arsenal’s 14th EPL Title With Spirit Of 14th FA Cup

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, wants his players to go into to the business of the 2020/2021 season in England with the same top spirit with which they won the Gunners’ 14th FA Cup in the coach’s first season in charge, Completesportcom reports.

Arteta, a former assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City was hired in December 2019 as Unai Emery replacement, thus starting his managerial career at the club he served as player for five years, from 2011 to 2016.

After leading Arsenal to finish eighth in the Premier League and winning the FA Cup, the 38 year old sounded noncommittal when Arsenal Media asked him to talk about his next target in 2020/2021 season. However, what the club and their teeming fans are longing to win once again is the Premier League.

Arsenal last won the the Premier League 16 years ago – precisely in 2003/2004 season when Arsene Wenger’s team earned the sobriquet ‘The Invincibles’ for going through an 38-game competition without losing any match – a record that is still unmatched.

“It’s an impossible question,” Arteta started when Arsenal Media asked him about the next goal.

“I don’t even know where we are going to be on day one of pre-season. I have to look at the players, how they come from holidays, how they come after winning, I want to see that reaction.

“You know, are they going to be a little more relaxed because we’ve done something or are they going to come with ‘Okay, this is nothing that we’ve done. We have to go to the next level, we have to apply ourselves better, we have to improve in a lot of areas and we have to dominate many other aspects of the game that at the moment we cannot control.”

“If that is the mindset, then I am very positive that we will be sitting here in a year’s time really happy. But I hope we take that road straight away.

Arteta added: “I am very positive about where we are. I don’t know if we are ahead of schedule, obviously if you had told me that we were going to win the cup before we joined then, I probably would be happy with that.

“What I am very positive and very passionate and encouraged about is what we can do in the future and if we make the right decisions
l am super confident that we can bring the club back to the top.”
