The outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has placed a ban on cows reared by Fulani herdsmen for any social event in the Southeast.

Naija News reports that this was made known in a New Year address by its Head of Directorate Mazi Chika Edoziem through its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful.

According to the proscribed pro-Biafra group, the ban on Fulani cows would take effect from April, 2022.

IPOB stated that only native cows would be allowed in the region for such events, urging traditional rulers, the clergy and town unions to ensure the message reaches the grassroots.

The group also banned the recitation of the Nigerian National Anthem in schools in the region.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige has revealed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will honour the zoning agreement in choosing its 2023 presidential candidate.

The Minister who pointed out that zoning is an unwritten agreement among politicians in the country said the APC is expected to zone its presidential candidate to the south.

He added that the dominant mood in the country is for a southerner to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 and the APC will be tilting towards this while the party National Chairman is expected to emerge from the North.

Ngige also submitted that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be shocked by Nigerians during the 2023 presidential election.

This is as he alleged that the PDP leadership is planning to choose a northerner as its candidate, adding that Nigerians will shock PDP if it decides to go that way as there will be a revolt against the party at the polls.

The World Bank has said Nigeria may not recover from its economic problems until the Nigerian Government solve the high inflation rate in the country.

Naija News reports that the global financial institution disclosed that the high inflation rate in Nigeria is eroding the purchasing power of the most vulnerable households.

The bank asserted that the high inflation rate in the country will lead to poverty, and the possible disruption of consumption, investment and saving decisions, among other consequences.

In its November edition of its Nigeria Development Update, the bank said Nigeria’s inflation rate may be among the world’s highest and seventh highest among Sub-Saharan African countries in 2022.

The Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) has debunked reports linking it with the presidential ambition of some southwest politicians in 2023.

The group in a statement on Monday by its publicity secretary, Yinka Oguntimehin submitted that what Nigeria needs to be better is not for any of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Lagos Governor Bola Tinubu, and Ekiti Governor Kayode Fayemi to be the next president.

According to OPC, whoever succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 will not make much difference without the restructuring of the country, hence the group insisted that what Nigeria needs is restructuring.

It wants the country to adopt the 1963 constitution which allows each region to develop at its own pace.

Oguntimehin made the submission while distancing the OPC from an alleged mega accord of 57 civil society groups rooting for a southwest presidential candidate.

The OPC said it’s not a political group nor is it mobilizing for any politician or party and those dropping its name are only out to defraud members of the public.

Pelumi Olajengbesi, a lawyer to Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho, has reportedly apologized to the leader of the Ilana Omo Oodua, Professor Banji Akintoye.

Recall that trouble between the duo had started after Banji Akintoye threatened that no governorship election would be allowed to hold in Ekiti and Osun this year.

Not happy with the statement, Olajengbesi had stated that voting remained a human right, adding that Akintoye was not speaking for his client and the people of the southwest.

Reacting, Ilana Omo Oodua group accused the lawyer of trying to please the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

However, Olajengbesi in a statement on Sunday withdraw his legal services to the group and Sunday Igboho.

In fresh developments, Olajengbesi reportedly called Akintoye and apologized over his social media outburst.

Naija News reports that this was made known in a statement on Monday by Ilana Omo Oodua group spokesperson, Maxwell Adeleye.

Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has disclosed why President Muhammadu Buhari needs to support an Igbo presidency.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alex Chiedozie Ogbonna, Ohanaeze said the president’s support would solve the marginalization and injustice debates in the South East.

Ogbonna added that the president’s action would reduce the secession agitation in the region and boost his image among the people.

He, however, identified poverty, insecurity and injustice as the major problems facing the county, calling on the federal government to address these challenges.

Former Nigerian presidential candidate, Alhaji Bashir Othman Tofa has been reported dead.

The Kano State-born politician was the presidential candidate of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC), Naija News recalls.

Tofa according to a report made available to newsmen by a family source, died in the early hours of Monday after battling an undisclosed illness.

The politician has since been buried in Kano.

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has vowed to disclose names of individuals behind the pervasive insecurity in the state on Tuesday.

Uzodinma promised to use the occasion of the 6th edition of the IMO stakeholders forum to make known the sponsors of insecurity in the South-East state.

He made this known in a statement on Sunday by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon Declan Emelumba.

Uzodinma added that he would use the occasion to highlight his achievements in the last two years and update the people of the state on his performance.

He noted that the meeting which is the sixth in the series is very crucial because of the weighty issues that are up for discussion.

Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan may be eyeing a return to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa as reports have emerged claiming he met with Southsouth leaders coordinating his alleged 2023 campaign.

It was gathered that shortly after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja last Thursday, Jonathan at held a meeting with his coordinators on December 27, 2021, at Aridolf Hotels and Spars in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

According to The Nation, two northern All Progressives Congress (APC) governors are reportedly behind plots for Jonathan to return to power which will also enable the North to reclaim Aso Rock after four years.

A source said the governors of two Northwest states are championing the plot for a Jonathan presidency and they want one of their own to run as his Vice President.

He added that the scheme was part of the reasons a minister from the Southsouth spoke recently against the then administration of Jonathan.

Nigerian activist and one-time senator, Shehu Sani has been described as a comedian and an idle blogger for wanting to become the next Governor of Kaduna State.

Naija News reports that the Kaduna All Progressive Congress, APC, in a statement issued on Monday said that the state is too big for the former lawmaker to handle.

Recall that Sani on Sunday declared interest in contesting the number one political position in the state.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, member said he’s joining the governorship race in other to clean up the mess of the incumbent administration of Malam Nasir El-Rufai.

Reacting, however, in a statement through its Publicity Secretary, Salisu Tanko Wusono, APC Kaduna State chapter said it was saddening all sorts of characters were dreaming of succeeding the Governor.

The ruling party said it has set a standard of governance in the state and would not allow Sani or any other ‘unfit’ politician to bring setbacks to the state.
