Name ban breach: Amoo’s rep vows to sue Nigerian media outlets for tarnishing image of winger:: All Nigeria Soccer

Former Golden Eaglets winger Akinkunmi Amoo’s Nigeria representative UDE Sports Management Agency has reacted to the news that the player has been sentenced to jail by a Danish court after being found guilty of indecent assault, attempted rape and rape in a sexual relationship other than intercourse.

The Chairman of UDE Sports, Uche Dominic Egbukwu has vowed to sue all the Nigerian media outlets that published the story unless they tender an unreserved apology within the next 72 hours.

On Friday, 23rd June 2023, a Danish court sentenced a player with the name withheld to one-year imprisonment with deportation from Denmark and a ban from entering the country for six years to follow.

However, several media outlets in Nigeria have gone on to publish the news disclosing Amoo to be the convict and that has not gone done well with his representatives

Egbukwu who heads his representative agency in Nigeria has released a statement to condemn the act and disclosed that Amoo is still training with his Danish club, FC Copenhagen.

“I have spoken to my player and his club officials and they have confirmed to me that  the news about his conviction to jail is not the correct narrative and he is presently training with the club,” Egbukwu said in a press release made available to allnigeriasoccer.com.

‘He was not sent to jail, no house arrest. The case is ongoing in court.

“The judgment was delivered last week Friday and our lawyer has appealed. He can’t make an official statement because of the name ban in the Danish press. Unfortunately, this case is blackmail and we will continue to fight for justice. Akin was not sent to jail.

“It’s sad that the Nigerian media that should support the player are pushing the wrong narratives. And I am going to sue them all for feeding the public with false narratives about our player”.

Publishing fake news is an offence under Sections 24 and Section 25 of the Nigerian Cybercrime Act 2015 which attracts at least three years of punishment.

Amoo was part of the 2019 Golden Eaglets side coached by Manu Garba that finished 4th in the U17 Africa Cup of Nations and got knocked out of the FIFA U17 World Cup in the round of 16

He joined Swedish side Hammarby after the World Cup before making a switch to FC Copenhagen in 2022 but was sidelined due to injury for the majority of last season.
