Yummy Mummies star Maria DiGeronimo: Fiance accused over act with ‘human biological material’

The partner of Yummy Mummies TV star Maria DiGeronimo will have to wait to learn if he faces trial over an allegation he committed ‘a prohibited act involving human biological material’.

Carlos Vannini was listed to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday when his case was adjourned for negotiations ahead of a potential pre-trial conference in August. 

The 39-year-old told Daily Mail Australia in April he knew nothing about the charge or the alleged victim and he has still not entered a plea.  

Carlos rose to fame on Yummy Mummies for indulging fiancée Maria with luxury goods while he ran Signature Cut Barbershop in the South Australian capital.

He is charged with committing a prohibited act with human biological material against another man at Nailsworth in Adelaide’s northern suburbs on January 29 last year.

Court papers state police allege Carlos spat at the man and ‘the spit hit the victim in his left forearm’.

A summons for Carlos to appear in court was filed on March 23 and the matter first came before a magistrate on April 11.

When contacted by Daily Mail Australia ahead of that mention, Carlos said: ‘What are you talking about, I don’t have court, and I haven’t been charged for anything, what are my charges??’

‘What’s is a prohibited act involving human biological material???? I don’t know what your talking about… ,’ he wrote.

Carlos said he did not know the alleged victim named in court papers and declined an invitation from Daily Mail Australia to have the charge sheet shown to him.

‘My lawyer will sort it out,’ he wrote.

Carlos has not responded to requests for comment since then.

Maria and Carlos were the most controversial couple on Yummy Mummies which aired on the Seven Network in 2017 and 2018 before being screened on Netflix.

The program followed wealthy expectant mothers as they supported each other through pregnancy and parenthood. It was slammed by critics and rated poorly.

Episode one of the first season attracted 755,000 viewers nationwide before that figure crashed to 207,000 by the eighth installment.

One reviewer called the program ‘fabricated, contrived, vapid, vacuous, pointless tripe’.

Another wrote: ‘To call Yummy Mummies car-crash television is to understate how garish, stupid, weird, poorly executed, and dutifully offensive it is.’

Seven’s website said Maria was ‘privileged to be a kept woman and lives a glamorous lifestyle financed by her partner Carlos, a barber’.

Carlos and Maria were known for their love of designer clothing and luxury cars. In one episode Carlos spent more than $20,000 on Maria.

In another, Maria celebrated the impending arrival of daughter Valentina with a $4,000 Versace-themed baby shower.

After the ceremony, Carlos presented Maria with a $7,000 money ‘bouquet’ and jewellery worth $15,000.

‘I know you don’t like flowers,’ he told Maria. ‘So I got you a bouquet of money.’

When Maria said Carlos worked as a ‘part-time’ barber, the motorcycle enthusiast took to Instagram and said he spent 45 hours a week at Signature Cut Barbershop.

Cosmopolitan called Maria the ‘feistiest and most extravagant cast member… and her lifestyle, frankly, has us very confused.’

‘A part-time barber’s wage doesn’t seem to match up to the couple’s obsession with labels.’

Despite being the biggest stars of Yummy Mummies, the pair did not return for its second season, with Carlos claiming Maria was ‘not portrayed accurately’ in season one.

‘Initially we agreed to the show on the premise that it would be an “observational documentary” which we understood would be us going about our lives with the added extra of a camera to document it,’ Carlos said at the time.

‘However… that was not the case at all.’

Carlos and Maria announced they had parted ways in September 2018, saying their appearance on the program was partly responsible for the four-year relationship’s demise.

‘The pressures and judgments of the public to some degree took its toll.’ Carlos told Adelaide Now.

‘The pressures of the show and the expectations of the producers throughout the pregnancy and after Valentina was born having the TV crew around all the time, didn’t allow for the bonding time as a family which we required.’

The split did not last and according to court documents Carlos and Maria still live in the four-bedroom house at Golden Grove in Adelaide’s north-east which featured on Yummy Mummies.

They now also have a son, Cartel.
