Joe Biden elected the 46th President of the United States, Kamala Harris of Indian origin became the Vice President

In the US presidential election, Democratic Party candidate Joe Biden defeated his Republican rival Donald Trump on Saturday. According to a CNN report, 77-year-old former Vice President Biden will be the 46th President of the United States after winning the state of Pennsylvania. After the victory in this state, Biden got more than 270 ‘Electoral College votes’ which were necessary for victory.

With 20 electoral votes in Pennsylvania, Biden now has a total of 273 electoral votes. Biden has served as the Vice President during former President Barack Obama’s tenure before becoming the presidential candidate from the Democratic Party. He has been Delaware’s longest-serving senator.

Indian Senator Kamala Harris is the first woman to be elected to the post of Vice President in the US. The 56-year-old Harris will be the country’s first Indian, black and African American Vice President. Biden and Harris will take oath of office on 20 January next year.

Biden tweeted, “America, you chose me to lead our great country, I feel honored. The work ahead is difficult, but I promise you: I will be the President of all Americans – whether you have voted me or not. I will maintain the confidence you have expressed in me.

Trump was playing golf in Virginia at the time major media institutions reported Biden’s victory. After George HW Bush in 1992, Trump was the first president to fail in a re-election effort. After Trump fell far behind in Pennsylvania, major media institutions started calling Biden the winner. Counting is still going on in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Nevada and Georgia. Biden has gained a significant edge in these four states.
