President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed new service chiefs for the nation after he sacked the previous ones, Naija News authoritatively reports.

This was confirmed on Tuesday in a tweet from presidential media aide, Femi Adesina in which he also quoted the president as appreciating the outgone service chiefs for their performance.

The President appointed Maj Gen LEO Irabor as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Maj Gen I Attahiru as Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Rear Admiral A Z Gambo as Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), and AVM I O Amao as Chief of Air Staff (CAS).

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has denied media reports that Governor Abdulahi Sule of Nasarawa State claimed there were Boko Haram members in the state.

Mohammed made this known at a media briefing in Abuja. According to the minister, governor Sule called him to inform him that the media misquoted him on the issue.

He said: “On the statement allegedly credited to the governor of Nasarawa State, I was also concerned and took on the governor, I asked him for further explanation. The governor said it was a case of being quoted out of context.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has left the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR), at 11.5% while keeping other parameters constant as well.

This was disclosed on Tuesday in a statement issued by the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele at the end of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting of the apex bank.

Emefiele noted in the statement that MPC members voted unanimously to retain the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) at 11.5%.

Other parameters such as Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR), Liquidity ratio, and asymmetric corridor also remain unchanged.

The Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Chief Gani Adams on Tuesday warned Yoruba activist Sunday Adeyemo popularly called Sunday Igboho against being used and dumped by politicians.

This is as he lamented that the recent popularity gained by Igboho after issuing quit notice to some Fulani herdsmen in the Ibarapa area of Oyo State could just become a tool in the hand of some politicians if not properly handled.

Adams made the submission when he appeared as a guest on Tuesday’s edition of The Morning Show on Arise TV.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has again warned officers of the force against setting up checkpoints in terms of roadblocks across the states.

Speaking on a live interview with the Channels Television on Monday, January 25, Adamu warned that any officer caught in the act, or any form of illegal duty would answer for it.

The IGP ordered that arms should be withdrawn from all vigilante groups, noting that it is illegal for the local security men to carry arms about. According to him, their work is to gather intelligence and make them available to the police.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the sacked service chiefs to unravel the reasons behind Nigeria’s security lapses.

The opposition party berated President Buhari for acting too late in appointing new service chiefs, “after much damage has been done”.

Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho has revealed that he knew Seyi Makinde before he became Oyo State Governor in 2019.
The activist on Tuesday revealed that he met Governor Makinde through the former governor of Oyo State, Rasheed Ladoja.

It will be recalled that Igboho had last week, issued a quit notice to herdsmen in Ibarapa North Local Government area of the State.

After the quit notice, Governor Makinde had threatened that Igboho won’t be allowed to cause disharmony in the state but the activist in a viral video dared the Governor to arrest him, boasting that he can’t be arrested.

The Presidency has insisted that the service chiefs replaced by President Muhammadu Buhari did not fail in their service to the nation.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Femi Adesina stated that it was only time to inject fresh energy in the fight against terrorism and other security challenges confronting the country.

According to the presidential aide, President Buhari commended the outgone service chiefs.

President Muhammadu Buhari has been reported called on by members of the Aso Rock cabal to place the National leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, on a watch list.

According to Saharareporters, the group which is led by the President’s nephew have accused the former Governor of Lagos State of sabotaging the war against insecurity in the country and instigating people from the South-West region and Nigeria in total against the Buhari-led government.

The cabal called on Buhari to direct security agencies to investigate the recent activities of the APC stalwart.

The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Olorunnimbe Mamora, said 58 herbal practitioners have so far made submissions on claims for COVID-19 cure.

He made this known on Monday in Abuja during the inauguration of a committee to develop protocols for the evaluation of herbal medicines claims for COVID-19 and other diseases.

The minister said the ministry had earlier met with traditional medicine practitioners and identified claimants of remedies for the management of COVID-19.
