The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has blamed Governor Nasir El-Rufai for the killings and kidnapping rocking Kaduna State.

The group stated that the Kaduna governor paying killer Fulani herdsmen some years back is the cause of the current carnage the north is witnessing.

CAN was reacting to a statement by El-Rufai where he threatened to hire foreign mercenaries to help tackle insecurity in the state.

El-Rufai was quoted to have made the submissions on Friday while speaking with journalists shortly after briefing President Muhammadu Buhari about the recent attacks and killings in Kaduna State including the attack on the International Airport as well as Monday’s bomb explosion on the Abuja-Kaduna train.

A former Senate President and Presidential aspirant, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki on Saturday met with national, zonal and state youth leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This was made known in a post on his Twitter page on Saturday, Naija News reports.

Saraki, a former governor of Kwara State, stated that he would continue to consult with youths because they play a decisive role in the main opposition party.

He disclosed that he met with the National Youth Leader of the PDP, six zonal youth leaders and all 36 State youth leaders.

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has slammed the Muhammadu Buhari-led government for ‘appointing’ Senator Iyiola Omisore as the new National Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement on Saturday titled, “Perhaps closed files should remain just that-closed?” Soyinka stated that Omisore is the prime suspect in the murder of a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige.

Recall that Ige, also an ex-governor of old Oyo State, was assassinated by unidentified gunmen at his Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State, home on December, 23, 2001.

According to Soyinka, the appointing of Omisore, a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, as an executive of the ruling APC would compromise investigations into Ige’s death.

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has joined the 2023 presidential race.

Although the former Governor of Rivers State did not formally declare his intention, a brochure to market his aspiration was released over the weekend.

The ruling party is likely to give its presidential ticket to a Southerner despite the likes of the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello showing interest in the race.

The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello on Saturday officially declared his intention to contest for the 2023 presidential election.

Bello made the declaration in Abuja to lay to rest speculations about his presidential ambition.

The likes of Senator Jonathan Zwingina, Femi Fani-Kayode and several others were in attendance.

Zwingina while speaking at the event described Bello as a detribalized Nigerian, who ruled his state with appointees from other states.

The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has threatened to bring in foreign mercenaries to fight bandit terrorists if the federal government of Nigeria refuses to do the needful.

According to him, the terrorists need to be treated with stronger force than what is obtainable right now.

The Governor stressed that it is obvious the bandit terrorists are getting bolder by the day with every unchallenged attack they launch successfully and are even getting confident about attacking the military.

He lamented why the security agencies have failed to respond to calls for the forests where these bandits are hiding to be bombed and destroyed.

A former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, on Saturday expressed optimism that the Peoples Democratic Party would present a candidate that would rescue Nigeria from its present situation.

Obi while speaking after he received the expression of interest and nomination forms presented to him by a group of professionals at his Onitsha residence, disclosed that the main opposition party are already discussing on present an acceptable candidate in 2023.

Some of the presidential aspirants in the party have been meeting with stakeholders in various states and considering a consensus candidate.

Some stakeholders in the party believe a consensus candidate might reduce the tension in the party ahead of its primaries.

The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has unveiled the identities of those responsible for Monday’s dastardly attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train in which many were killed, some injured and many others kidnapped.

The daring attack which sent shockwaves down the spines of Nigerians was jointly executed by Boko Haram members and bandit terrorists, the Governor disclosed.

He made the disclosure on Friday while speaking with newsmen shortly after briefing President Muhammadu Buhari on the security situation in Kaduna State as well as the recent attacks in the state, Naija News reports.

Governor El-Rufai also confirmed that the terrorists have started contacting some of the family members of those they kidnapped but ruled out the possibility of his government paying ransom to secure their release.

Nollywood veteran, Pete Edochie has stated that presidential aspirants like Bola Ahmed Tinubu cannot become the president of Nigeria because they are too old.

Edochie shared his thoughts while speaking with BBC Igbo. He said that it is high time the former governor resign considering he has been in power for a long time.

He also condemned the marginalization of the Igbos and their inability to produce a president since the country attained democracy.

He explained that Tinubu has to leave power so that youths who are stronger and healthier can take over and move the country forward.

Adeyinka Shoyemi, a Nigerian residing in West London has been sentenced to jail for racial hatred and violence towards Igbos.

Evening Standard reported that a specialist group officers in the Met’s Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit assessed messages posted by accounts under the name ‘Adeyinka Grandson’.

The report stated further that 45-year old caught the attention of the counter-terror police in 2019 after some people reported him for targeting a particular ethnic group.
