This is what you’re giving up Harry! How Kane will be swapping fish suppers and a £1million-a-year Hampstead pad for bratwurst and a Bavarian villa – as Spurs star eyes up transfer to German club

With his £ 17 million rented mansion within easy reach of world-class golf courses and acres of beautiful green space, Harry Kane‘s life in London looks the portrait of perfection.

When you add to that a world-class cultural and sporting scene, a dizzying variety of restaurants, and the buzz of being in arguably the world’s top international city, the UK capital seems hard to beat.

But with the Tottenham striker poised to move to Bayern Munich for £100million, Kane now faces the prospect of an entirely new life in the Bavarian capital. That is, of course, if the deal goes ahead.

Kane currently lives in a seven-bedroom mansion in North London with his pregnant wife, Katie Goodland, and their children Ivy, Vivienne Jane, and Louis.

The home, which they rent for around £1million a year, comes with a state-of-the-art gym and swimming pool, and walls lined with Harry’s framed famous number 18 football shirts.

So where in Munich could compete?

According to reports in the German media, Katie has been seen househunting in Grunwald, an upscale suburb just south of the city center.

The area is said to be the wealthiest municipality in Germany, and for decades has been an enclave for Bayern players away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

In addition to members of the club hierarchy including board member and former CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the leafy suburb is home to players including Matthijs de Ligt, Leroy Sane, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Alphonso Davies, Benjamin Pavard, ex-luminaries-such-as-Franck-Ribery.

The area is blessed with good schools – including several international ones – something that might weigh heavily on the mind of soon-to-be father-of-four Kane.

Unsurprisingly, entry to the Grunwald residents’ association does not come cheap: former Bayern player Jerome Boateng is aiming to offload his Bauhaus-style villa – complete with pool, sauna, library, cinema room, and wine cave – for an eyewatering £9.9million (€11.5m).

When it comes to culinary matters, London packs an impressive punch – with a total of 74 restaurants awarded Michelin stars.

The high-end dining scene in Munich is undoubtedly smaller, but there is still a raft of good options to choose from.

Upon joining Bayern, head coach Thomas Tuchel plumped for Izakaya, a Japanese-South American fusion restaurant at the Roomers Hotel in Friedenheim.

In Grunwald itself, Asian joint Chang is a player favorite, with sushi platters costing as much as €95.

Other restaurants include H’ugo’s (where one can order its famed truffle pizza), Mathsuhisa at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Cochinchina, and Schuhbeck’s Sudtiroler Stuben, where – as per BILD – Bayern has hosted several title celebration dinners.

For cozier family meals, the Kanes might see themselves choosing Kafer-Schanke, a popular pan-European eatery close to the city center which played host to an all-player summit during the last days of Nagelsmann in January.

Healthier options are popular with the Bayern stars including Wagners, a juicer and health food bakery a stone’s throw from Grunwald offering up a raft of plant-based and gluten-free options such as smoothie bowls and quinoa porridge, and Routine Wellness Club.

In England, Kane spends much of his leisure time playing golf and is a member of both Wentworth and Beaverbrook.

Luckily, Grunwald is only a 20-minute drive from Thalkirchen’s 9-hole course, while membership of Munich Golf Club will grant him access to both Thalkirchen and 27-hole Strasslach, a Perry O’Dye-designed course just 11 minutes away.

Should Kane wish to go further afield, he might take up membership at Golfclub München Eichenried. 41 minutes from Grunwald, which hosts the annual BMW International Open.

Would-be-future team-mate and fellow golf lover Thomas Muller knows the course well – he featured in the Pro-Am tournament on the course ahead of the Open this year, alongside former Real Madrid star Gareth Bale.

London’s cultural scene needs little introduction, with a vast range of attractions ranging from historical sites like the Tower of London to world-class museums and galleries like the Science Museum and Tate Modern.

Meanwhile, the delights of the English countryside are just a short journey away, as are seaside towns like Brighton and Margate.

Nearer to home, Kane can walk his Labrador dogs in one of London’s many parks, including 790-acre Hampstead Heath.

Fortunately for the star, Munich has plenty to offer too. In the city, the family can explore the historic Old Town and monuments including the Frauenkirchen or Neues Rathaus, or take in the various art museums and the Deutsches Museum – the largest science and technology museum in the world.

In the countryside, should Kane base himself in Grunwald, he would be close to the beaches and boat trips at Starnberger See, a picturesque lake southwest of the city famed for its hiking trails and watersports.

But the club is unlikely to sign off on weekend trips to the nearby ski resort of Kitzbuhel – goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is still recovering from the horrific leg break that ruled him out of the side at the end of December 2022.
