Ohanaeze insists 2014 National Confab reports will address structural imbalances in Nigeria
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group in Nigeria, has insisted that unless Nigeria is restructured and the 2014 National Confab reports implemented, the myriad of challenges facing the country will not end.
Ohanaeze, in a statement by its Spokesman, Chuks Ibegbu and forwarded to DAILY POST, on Friday, noted that the confab report contains more than six hundred articles that addressed all the challenges facing the country, opining that as long as some vested interest are afraid of its implementation, Nigeria shall be going round and round the circle with no solution to her woes.
The highest Igbo organization further posited that the presidential system of government is too expensive, calling for return to the parliamentary system.
Concluding, Ohanaeze Ndigbo added, “the Constitutional Review the National Assembly wants to embark on, is a mere waste of funds and time as whatever they discuss is already in the Confab Reports”.
Meanwhile, as part of its resolve strengthening and consolidating on the unity of Nigeria, an Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, has disclosed that it has moved, through invitation of South West Monarchs, to interface and cross-fertilize ideas on how to diffuse all artificial barriers, suspicions and hatred erected by proponents of 1967 civil war.
Ohanaeze berated alleged efforts of disgruntled leaders and external detractors of Southern Nigeria to keep South, in perpetual disunity through seed of discords sown in 1970, which had lingered 50 years ago till date.
The Igbo socio-cultural group, in a statement jointly signed by its President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Secretary-General, Okwu Nnabuike and made available to newsmen on Friday, revealed that leaders of various Igbo groups, Yoruba Cultural Organisations Traditional rulers, youth and religious Groups of Oduduwa descent, would work to restore confidence amongst all components of Southern Nigeria especially the Southwest with the Igbo nation.
According to OYC, southern Nigeria will surely unite in 2023, and reach a consensus presidency/candidate from any zone that is favoured by equity and justice.
Ohanaeze youths used the medium and lauded a prominent northern elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, for his courage in drumming support for Igbo nation to take its shot at Aso Rock Villa in 2023, on the basis of equity, fairness and justice.
OYC however confided that Yakasai’s position has further proved the affirmative action that Northern Nigeria will support Igbo as old allies, to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
