Npower News Today – Npower Spend N30bn On Monthly Stipend
Npower latest news – Federal government has said it spends N30 billion monthly on N-Power beneficiaries’ stipends.
The announcement was made by the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadia Omar Farooq at the closing ceremony of 3,000 N-Power beneficiaries trained in hardware and software engineering under N-Tech in Abuja yesterday.
The Minister also called on the National Coordinator, National Social Investment Program (NSIP), Dr. Omar Binder said that about 1 million Nigerians annually are beneficiaries of N-Power, which has been instrumental in lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty, a program launched by a government-led President Mohammed Buhari.
“If you have 1 million NSIP graduates every month for a year, they get a stipend of N30,000, so every month there is a bill of 30 billion for scholarships only, you can calculate in one year. Yes, we can talk about N360 billion paid for scholarships every year.
Non-graduates have packages, computers and other facilities, they are educated and can then start their own business.
“The government invests around 300 to 400 billion euros in the program each year. The NSIP is regarded as one of the best poverty alleviation programs in Africa, ”he said.
Farooq instructed the beneficiaries to use the knowledge gained from the training wisely so as to influence others for the betterment of the society.
Beneficiaries selected from the states of the North Central Geopolitical Zone (Plateau, Nasarwa, Niger, Kogi and Federal Capital Territory) are currently undergoing training at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN), Kubwa, Abuja.
NPower Knowledge – which is a non-graduate program and takes the form of N-Tech hardware, N-Tech software and N-Creative training programs (animation and screenwriting).
