Missing Titanic submarine latest: Search widens as hope of finding men alive dwindle with 16 hours of oxygen left
Rescuers race against clock after noises heard from Titanic vessel search area
There are now less than 16 hours of oxygen left in the missing Titan submersible as rescue efforts continue for the five passengers.
A Canadian aircraft searching for the sub in the Atlantic Ocean detected intermittent “banging” noises from the vicinity of its last known location.
The crew searching for the missing sub heard banging sounds every 30 minutes on Tuesday and again four hours later, after additional sonar devices were deployed.
However, the US Coast Guard clarified that they “don’t know the source of the noise”.
Aboard the Titan is CEO and founder of OceanGate Expeditions Stockton Rush, British billionaire explorer Hamish Harding, renowned French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet and Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman Dawood.
Mr Dawood’s sister, Sabrina Dawood told Sky News that the Dawood family is solely focused on the rescue of her brother and nephew and hope for their safe return.
The watercraft submerged on Sunday morning from its support vessel to travel to the Titanic wreckage which sits at a depth of 12,500ft. About an hour and 45 minutes later, the Titan lost contact with its surface ship, the Polar Prince.
The Titan is equipped with a four-day emergency oxygen supply.

Sounds and objects investigated for ties to missing sub
Captain Jamie Frederick said in addition to the “banging” sounds that one asset detected on Tuesday and Wednesday, one aircraft saw something floating in the water –both were investigated with no results.
Mr Frederick said when the aircraft spotted something they went back to look at it but determined it was “not correlated with the case.”
The result of the “banging” noises heard by the Canadian P-3 was inconclusive but the results had been shared with the US for further analysis, Mr Frederick said.

US Coast Guard says there are 10 total assets searching for sub
In a press conference on Wednesday (21 June), Captain Jamie Frederick, response coordinator from the First District of the US Coast Guard, said the US had five surface assets searching for the missing submersible with five more coming in the coming days.
Two ROVs (remotely operated vehicles) are currently searching for the OceanGate Expeditions sub, with “several more” en route.
In addition, two P-3 flights and two C-130s flights were surveying the area on Wednesday.
“We will continue to work as hard and quickly as possible to locate them,” Captain Frederick said.

Pisces III: The successful deep sea rescue that could offer hope to Titanic submarine crew
Rescuers frantically searching for the missing Titan submersible may take hope from a successful mission which saw a crew saved after spending 84 hours trapped underwater.
The ongoing race to find the group has led to comparisons with a successful mission to save two submariners trapped 150 miles off the coast of Ireland back in 1973.
Roger Mallinson and Roger Chapman endured almost three-and-a-half days trapped in Pisces III while it lay about 1,600ft (500m) below sea level.
The pair – then aged 28 and 35 respectively – eventually reached the surface with just 12 minutes of oxygen left.
Speaking shortly after it emerged that the crew aboard the missing OceanGate Expeditions vessel have less than 24 hours of oxygen left, Mr Mallison said: “It’s very cold and it’s very dark and it’s really frightening because you don’t know what the outcome is going to be.

Titanic sub passengers forced to sign chilling ‘death waiver’ before tourist excursion
A man who visited the Titanic wreckage in the same submersible that is now missing in the Atlantic has revealed the jarringly extensive waiver passengers were forced to sign before going on the expedition.
Mike Reiss, a producer and writer on The Simpsons, made the journey with OceanGate last year.
Speaking to the New York Post, Mr Reiss and his wife Denise didn’t say specifically how much they paid for the trip, but according to the paper, it was more than $100,000. After Ms Reiss tested positive for Covid-19, she had to stay on the support vessel on the surface while her husband made the eight-hour journey to the ocean floor.
