A teleprompter is nothing but a device used for displaying the words in the monitor or television screen kept in front of a camera. The newsreaders who work on television channels uses teleprompter software extensively while presenting the news. The basic idea behind the service is to convince the viewer that the person who reads the news has memorized the entire news and speaking out from his memory.

It gives the impression to the viewer as if the reader talks to him directly. Usually a screen is placed in front of the reader and a camera is placed below such that the words are displayed on the monitor by reflection method using a clear glass surface. The newsreader will directly look into the camera and comfortably read the messages from the monitor in front of her. It is quite common to use this technology for delivering speeches by celebrity personalities when they are interviewed.

The audience who are listening to the news will have a feeling that the newsreader is delivering the news directly from her memory. But in reality the reader will see the display screen or monitor on which the words to be read are displayed with full clarity. Nowadays, teleprompter software applications are used in many organizations and business associations for delivering quality speeches and for creation of quality audios. It can be conveniently used on laptop or on a desktop, thus facilitating the speaker to control the flow and rate of delivery of words. Personal Teleprompters are used in schools and other educational institutions for delivering pre-written speeches. The speaker will now be able to adjust the monitor, either for slowing it down or speeding up according to the rate of delivery of words.

It is not necessary that the speaker should directly look into the camera for reading the monitor. Sometimes, during interviews of movie stars and big personalities, the camera crew fixes the monitor below the place where he is seated so that he can refer to the monitor while giving answers. This service cannot be used where live interviews are conducted.

Apart from television channels this service is widely used by politicians during electrical speeches given on tours. They usually fix the device in the place where they are standing in the car or vehicle and the person who reads the message can control, and browse up and down the monitor for repeating the message. Using different types of teleprompter services, the reader can now save and edit the texts in any format according to his choice.
