CMA Awards: Jordan Davis’s Buy Dirt wins the honors for Song of the Year in Nashville
Jordan Davis’s Buy Dirt won the honors for Song of the Year at the CMA Awards Wednesday.
‘We wrote a song about faith and family,’ Davis said, ‘and if that’s not country music I don’t know what is.’
The song, which was penned by Davis, Jacob Davis, Josh Jenkins and Matt Jenkins, bested a field including Carly Pearce and Ashley McBryde’s Never Wanted To Be That Girl; Morgan Wallen’s Sand In My Boots; Lainey Wilson’s Things A Man Oughta Know; and Chris Stapleton’s You Should Probably Leave.

Brothers Osborne prevailed in the category of Vocal Duo of the Year, as they were matched up in the category against Brooks & Dunn, Dan + Shay, LOCASH and Maddie & Tae.
The tandem’s T.J. Osborne said that ‘to be in the presence of’ presenter Wynonna Judd was an honor.
‘Huge thanks to the CMAs,’ he added. ‘Thanks for everyone who has a little part or a huge part in our lives, it’s an incredible ride, thanks for letting us be on it.’
Old Dominion claimed the honors of Vocal Group of the Year for the fifth time. They defeated a field including Lady, Little Big Town, Midland and Zac Brown Band. In their acceptance speech, the band paid tribute to late Alabama musician Jeff Cook, who died Monday at the age of 73 following a battle with Parkinson’s disease.
The show was held Wednesday evening at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, and hosted by Peyton Manning and Luke Bryan

He bested a field that included Buy Dirt by Jordan Davis featuring Luke Bryan; half of my hometown from Kelsea Ballerini (feat. Kenny Chesney); Pearce and McBryde’s Never Wanted To Be That Girl; and Chris Stapleton’s You Should Probably Leave.
‘God bless country music, thank you so much,’ Johnson said as he accepted his award, also thanking his producer and engineer on the collaboration.

Luke Combs won Album of the Year, for the second time, for Growin’ Up. He bested a field including Maren Morris’s Humble Quest, Miranda Lambert’s Palomino, Lainey Wilson’s Sayin’ What I’m Thinkin’ and Old Dominion’s Time, Tequila & Therapy.
‘I was not expecting this,’ said Combs, who added he was ‘so thankful’ to be honored at the award show. ‘I’ve been here a long time, and I owe a lot of people in this room a lot of gratitude.’
Combs credited his musical collaborators Chip Matthews and Jonathan Singleton, saying, ‘These guys worked their tails off on this album.’
Fiddle player Jenee Fleenor won Musician of the Year. She was nominated against steel guitar player Paul Franklin, guitarist Brent Mason, banjo player Ilya Toshinskiy and guitarist Derek Wells.

Cody Johnson won the honors for Single of the Year for ‘Til You Can’t
Lainey Wilson claimed the honors of New Artist of the Year. She bested a field of competition that included HARDY, Walker Hayes, Cody Johnson and Parker McCollum.
‘If you know me, you know that I am rarely speechless,’ Wilson said. ‘And I feel pretty speechless right now. I will say this one right here is for that nine-year-old little girl who wrote her first song, who knew in her heart that this was what she was supposed to do.
‘This is for those 11 years that I have been here in Nashville and not taken no for an answer. This right here is for everybody who has believed in me and a little bit for the ones who even didn’t.’
Wilson thanked her lord and savior Jesus Christ as well as her family and her small town of Baskin in northeast Louisiana.

Cody Johnson’s ‘Til You Can’t was named Music Video of the Year, overcoming a field that included Pearce and McBryde’s Never Wanted To Be That Girl; Swindell’s Never Say Never; Midland’s Longneck Way To Go and Taylor Swift and Chris Stapleton’s I Bet You Think About Me” (Taylor’s Version).
