The removal includes testing, quarantine and isolation requirements.

Travelers, regardless of nationality, will no longer need to submit health information via the ArriveCAN app or provide proof of vaccination, according to a government statement issued Monday (26/9) local time.

The official requirement for travelers to wear masks on planes and trains will also be lifted, although the government is still encouraging the public to do so. Canada will also welcome cruise ship passengers back without regulations.

The decision comes as infection and hospitalization rates across the country continue to decline and vaccination rates continue to rise.

“As the pandemic situation continues to evolve, adjustments to border measures have been informed by the latest evidence, available data, operational considerations and the epidemiological situation, both within Canada and internationally,” the Public Health Agency of Canada said .

Canadian Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos expressed his gratitude for the achievement.

“Thanks in large part to Canadians who have rolled up their sleeves to be vaccinated, we have reached the point where we can safely lift the sanitary measures at the border,” Duclos said.

“However, we suspect Covid-19 and other respiratory viruses will continues to circulate during the colder months, so I encourage everyone to stay up-to-date with their Covid-19 vaccinations, including booster doses, and take individual public health measures,” he said.

“I also thank the dedicated public health officers and frontline staff at our land borders and airports who have worked tirelessly to protect the health and safety of people in Canada over the past two years,” Duclos continued

. 19 sparked massive protests across the country earlier this year, with hundreds of truck drivers descending on Ottawa in February, parking their massive rigs in the middle of the city and bringing the capital to a standstill for weeks.

Tens of thousands of people have joined truck drivers in Ottawa to protest what they believe is an exaggeration that violates their civil liberties.
