Best Best Makeup & Hairstyling Oscar Winners List
While the first official Academy Awards ceremony was held in May 1929, it took more than 50 years for an award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling to finally be included among the list of honors. Yes, there were non-competitive Makeup and Hairstyling awards that went to “7Faces of Dr. Lao” and “Planet of the Apes” in the late ‘60s, but by the early 1980s, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences found the need to honor this essential to the filmmaking art form. And they began by honoring a true cult classic.
