BAFTAs 2022: Rebel Wilson’s X-rated joke about Daniel Craig ‘cut from BBC broadcast’

Aussie comedian Rebel Wilson hosted this year’s BAFTA Film Awards at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Sunday – but there was one gag that didn’t make it to air.

A joke about how she wanted to ‘sit on’ James Bond actor Daniel Craig was deemed too crude for broadcast, and the BBC cut it out before the ceremony was televised.

Only members of the audience heard the 42-year-old’s racy joke, reports The Sun

The Bridesmaids star set up the gag by showing off a badly drawn fake ‘tattoo’ on her leg.

The drawing bore a slight likeness to Craig, and was next to the number ‘007’.

‘It looks like the word LOO – but I know which I would rather sit on,’ quipped Wilson.

She also reportedly made a joke about The Power of the Dog star Benedict Cumberbatch that didn’t make it to air either.

Wilson also addressed her 5.5 stone (35kg) weight loss as she hosted Sunday’s awards.

The Sydney-born entertainer told the star-studded audience she had undergone ‘quite the transformation’ over the last two years as a photo of her from the BAFTAs in 2020 appeared on screen.

She then took a swipe at JK Rowling as she joked the Harry Potter author would not approve of her physical ‘transformation’, referencing the writer’s previous comments on transgender issues.

Taking to the stage, Wilson said: ‘I might look a little different from the last time you guys saw me here.

‘That was two years ago and since then I have done quite a transformation. I hope JK Rowling still approves.

She jokingly added: ‘Everybody is asking me: “Why did you lose weight?” and I was like: “Really it was to get the attention of Robert Pattinson.”

‘Because you know what they say, once you go Bat you don’t go back.’

Wilson then joked she’d decided to lose weight in order to further her film career.

She said: ‘Just joking. I did not lose weight for just a guy, I did it to get more acting roles.

‘I am so excited I can play the non-funny love interest in an Adam Sandler movie.’

Wilson previously told how her polycystic ovary syndrome caused her to put on weight in her twenties.

The actress admitted she chose comedy acting after she gained weight because it relies less on appearance to secure acting jobs.

She jokingly added: 'Everybody is asking me, "Why did you lose weight?" and I was like, "Really it was to get the attention of Robert Pattinson"'

Before embarking on her ‘year of health’ in 2020, Wilson confessed she ‘knew her emotional eating wasn’t healthy’, as she used it to deal with her feelings.

Discussing her decision to take on roles such as Fat Amy in Pitch Perfect on the Life Uncut Podcast, Wilson said: ‘Being bigger I was kind of the normal size, maybe more on the athletic side when I was a teenager…

‘And then I had something called polycystic ovary syndrome [PCOS] and one of the side effects is that you can gain weight rapidly when you’re 20/21.

‘So obviously I knew I was a bigger girl so I was like you just got to embrace it so that’s why I went into comedy acting because I knew how much power comedians can have, people are more likely to laugh at people they don’t want to have sex with.’

Discussing her decision to lose weight and get heathier in 2020, Wilson said: ‘I’m turning 40 I knew I can be healthier… I’m gonna make the big change and lose the excess weight, I had a lot of push-back from that.’

She detailed the changes in her life since dropping more than 70 pounds and explained that is has ‘opened doors’ for her into dramatic acting.

‘On the whole pretty much everyone’s been so supportive. Everyone’s been so nice and everyone gives you compliments,’ she said.

‘It’s opened up dramatic roles which I wasn’t getting considered before, which is awesome so I can really use my acting muscle.

‘I still think there was some statistic, leading ladies it’s less than one per cent of plus-size actresses, there is some movement in including different body types.’

Wilson made headlines around the world after declaring 2020 her ‘Year of Health’, as she started a quest to spend the year getting fit.

In May, the Fat Pizza star candidly admitted to feeling ‘sad’ that she’d waited until the age of 40 to embrace a healthier lifestyle.

‘Now that I know I can do it, sometimes I feel sad that I didn’t do it earlier,’ she told InStyle.

Admitting she’s always been ‘a bit of a late developer,’ Wilson said she wished she ‘tried when I was 30, not 40.’

‘But everybody’s journey is different, and it’s not a race or competition.’

‘I have a natural empathy for anyone who struggles with weight issues because that’s something I’ve always struggled with.’

Wilson said that ‘anyone can go on walks and drink more water and do little, consistent things that’ll improve their lives,’ and it’s never too late to start.

Elsewhere during the BAFTAs, Wilson made a jibe about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The star said the special, which aired on CBS in the United States on ITV in the UK in March last year, had everything from ‘drama to fantasy’ but was ‘unfortunately’ not nominated in the Outstanding British Film category at this year’s BAFTAs.

Introducing the nominations, Wilson said: ‘From drama to fantasy, Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview had it all.

‘Unfortunately, that’s not nominated in this category, but some incredible films are.

‘Let’s take a look at some of the most outstanding British films this year.’

Harry, 37, and Meghan’s interview – which was nominated for a 2021 Television Critics Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a People’s Choice Award – was broadcast a year after they announced they were stepping down as working members of the royal family in January 2020.

The couple discussed their courtship and wedding, the sex of daughter Lilibet, who was born in June last year, Meghan’s suicidal thoughts, and their feelings of emotional and financial abandonment by the royal family.

Meghan, 40, also said comments had been made privately to Harry by someone within the royal family in relation to the skin colour of their then unborn son Archie, now two.

They also spoke of a royal title for Archie, the couple’s personal security, and Harry’s estrangement from his father Prince Charles, 73, and brother Prince William, 39, as well as Meghan’s relationship with her estranged family.
