President Muhamadu Buhari on Tuesday told his counterpart from the Republic of Benin, Patrice Talon that good neighbourliness is critical in the survival and development of countries around the world.

The two leaders held a private meeting after the Beninese leader arrived at the forecourt of the presidential villa at 11.09 a.m. and was received by President Buhari.

Revealing details of what was discussed, the Special Adviser to Buhari (Media and Publicity), Femi Adesina disclosed in a statement that while playing host to the Benin leader, President Buhari said “Good neighbourliness is very important in our lives. The survival of your neighbour is also your own, and we will continue to work with our neighbours in the light of this understanding.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has rejected the ultimatum asking herdsmen to leave Ondo forest reserves by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Naija News recalls that Akeredolu had ordered herdsmen in the state to vacate the forest reserves within a period of seven days counting from Monday, 18th January.

The Governor also banned night grazing as well as highway and under-age grazing in the state.

But reacting in a statement on Tuesday by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari described what is emerging as a lack of consistency in messaging which in turn leads to various contradictions regarding the accuracy and the intent behind the message.

Buhari urged the state government and the leadership of the Fulani communities to continue their dialogue for a good understanding that will bring to an urgent end the nightmarish security challenges.

An appeal has gone out to President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the current service chiefs as events clearly show they are not capable of tackling insecurity plaguing Nigeria.

The appeal was contained in a statement by the Coalition of Northern Elders for Peace and Development who lamented that the current state of insecurity in Nigeria has negatively affected other sectors including economic and socio-political activities.

The Coalition’s National Coordinator, Engr. Zana Goni who signed the statement warned that if the President failed to take necessary action, they will mobilize Nigerians against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the 2023 elections draw close.

The statement lamented that killings, banditry and other crimes have gone on unchecked in the North and other regions of the country for too long.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says telecommunications companies have submitted 47.8 million National Identification Numbers (NINs) to enable subscribers link them with their SIM cards.

In a statement signed by, Director of Public Affairs of NCC, Ikechukwu Adinde, on Tuesday, the NCC said this means that many millions will be linked up before the deadline on February 9.

Adinde noted the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, expressed satisfaction with this achievement.

The Bayelsa State House of Assembly on Tuesday dismissed reports that it had concluded plans to impeach Governor Douye Diri.

Naija News reports that this was made known by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mr Tare Porri.

He denied the speculation during a press briefing at the Assembly Complex, Yenagoa.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced November 6 as the date for the conduct of the 2021 governorship election in Anambra State.

The INEC Chairman of Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye, made this known in a statement on Tuesday, 19th January 2021.

Okoye in his statement disclosed that the tenure of the incumbent Governor, Willie Obiano will expire on March 17, 2022.

Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami has warned Nigerians not to fall victim to a fake Twitter account posing as the official page of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

The warning follows a threat issued on Tuesday by the fake account which told Nigerians to be ready to face the consequences of the inability to link their National Identification Number (NIN) with their SIM cards once the deadline for the linkage expires.

The fake account had written: “By order of the federal government, today is given as the last chance to register your NIMC or face the wrath of what comes next.”

However, the Minister in a disclaimer later on Tuesday which was also retweeted by the NIMC official Twitter account said the statement didn’t emanate from any government official.

President Muhammadu Buhari-led government on Tuesday noted that Nigeria has the capacity to store up to 400,000 doses of the expected COVID-19 vaccine.

The Executive Director of the National Primary Health Development Agency, Dr Faisal Shuaib, stated this during a tour of the National Strategic Cold Store in Abuja.

The Federal Government is expected to receive 100,000 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine by the end of January.

Troops of the Nigerian Military deployed under the Operation Accord have neutralized two notorious armed bandits in Kaduna State.

This was confirmed by the Defence Headquarters in an update on Tuesday, 19th January contained in a statement by the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche.

Enenche disclosed that the bandits, who were killed on Monday after troops acted based on credible intelligence had been terrorizing residents and road users along the Sabon- Iche- Kagarko road in Kaduna State.

A tanker explosion that occurred on Tuesday morning in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has left three persons dead and many vehicles burnt, Naija News understands.

It was gathered that the incident which occurred around 8:15 am on the Presidential Boulevard Road around Guarantee Trust Bank opposite Lawson Group School, was caused by a brake failure.

According to The Punch, the 33,000-fuel-laden tanker which was coming from Sagamu-Siun-Oke-Mosan Road climbed the overhead bridge but suddenly lost control while descending from the bridge.
