Zoe Kravitz reveals she had to be in ‘specific shape’ for her role as Catwoman in The Batman movie

She’s set to portray the iconic role of Catwoman in the upcoming The Batman filming, alongside leading man Robert Pattinson.

And Zoe Kravitz has told how spending a year filming for the role amidst the disruptions of the coronavirus pandemic was ‘physically demanding’, especially with the need to stay in a ‘specific shape’ for the role.

In a new interview with AnOther, the actress, 32, told how the experience of being zipped into a skintight catsuit on a daily basis while sticking to a strict exercise routine was very ‘intense’.

With The Batman, like many films, suffering filming setbacks due to the pandemic, and with directors Matt Reeves’ ‘specific’ and ‘collaborative’ way of filmmaking, Zoe described filming as an ‘incredible experience’ in which they were in their own ‘bubble’.

However, things did take its toll on her body as she described how she had to keep in shape to get into her form-fitting costume to everyday.

She explained: ‘It’s very physically demanding… I had to be in very specific shape, and there’s a pandemic going on. I’m being zipped into a catsuit every day at 7am, working 12-hour days and then coming home and working out. It was intense.’

In her latest role, Zoe is following in the great footsteps of Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, Anne Hathaway and Eartha Kitt who have brought the character of Selina Kyle to life over the years.

But for Zoe, after watching all the previous Batman movies, she found that she had to really explore the character deeply in order for Selina to come across as ‘real’, as opposed to just a carbon copy of those that came before.

She said: ‘I also tried to think about it not as Catwoman, but as a woman, how does this make me feel? How are we approaching this and how are we making sure we’re not fetishising or creating a stereotype? I knew it needed to be a real person.’

And though the story of Selina Kyle has been followed by hardcore comic book fans for decades, Zoe noted how it was important not to ‘think about them’ when filming the role, insisting that she simply wanted to ‘honour’ the story.

Elsewhere, Zoe opened up about her ‘personal’ new solo album, where she touched on her failed marriage to actor Karl Glusman, who she divorced after just 18 months of marriage.

She said: ‘It’s about love and loss. I got married. I got divorced. Separations, break-ups are sad but are beautiful things too. It’s about the bittersweetness, that beginning and that end. It’s so complex, that space, when you’re in between heartbroken and mourning the loss of something and excited for what’s ahead of you.’

These days, Zoe is happily loved up with Magic Mike star Channing Tatum, 41, with the actor getting on swimmingly well with her rocker dad Lenny Kravitz, if their recent social media exchange is anything to go by.

Channing ‘good god man!’ on a photo of Lenny showing off his washboard abs, before the singer jokingly replied that he had his sights set on Magic Mike and asked for ‘any connections.’

Tatum has been romantically involved with the 57-year-old rocker’s daughter in a public way since late August, just days after her divorce was finalized.

The American Woman singer posted an Instagram snap in an unbuttoned leopard button down that exposed his incredible six pack.

Upon seeing the image, Channing was quick to comment on his physique, while complimenting the family — which includes Zoe —on their ‘genes.’

‘Good god man! What are you eating or what’s in the water or the genes. It’s not natural. Do you just do abs like all day?’ the 21 Jump Street actor wrote.

Following the his praise, Lenny threw it right back at him as he joked: ‘Dude, I’m just trying to get in the next Magic Mike. Any connections?’

The equally ripped actor famously starred in Magic Mike in 2012, and Magic Mike XXL in 2015.

The film was loosely based on the experiences of Tatum, who was an 18-year-old stripper in Tampa, Florida, before he got his acting break six years later in Coach Carter.

And based on the humorous exchange, it appears that Lenny approves of his daughter Zoe’s new relationship.
