With the turbulence of world politics at the present time it is impossible to miss media stories and articles published about the clothing of women in politics. It is from here that this EPQ idea started to take shape. The aim of this project is to find out the extent of the influence that politics and fashion have on each other. To do this, topics such as different periods of history (all within the contemporary age from approximately 1945 to the present day), the public opinion about dress and the extent of the political influence on it, and the role of the media will be covered. To create the content for this project extensive primary and secondary research was carried out. A questionnaire was created which was sent to women involved in both local and national politics in an effort to get their opinions and included their responses in this essay. For the secondary research extensive reading was carried out and notes made on the sources found, which can all be seen in the reading log and bibliography. Books, academic journals, magazine and newspaper articles and documentaries were used, only from credible sources.
Georgia Sweeting, 6th form student in Rugby School, Warwickshire, examines the issue. ‘EPQs into Books’ project started in Rugby School in 2017 lets students convert their independent research prepared for A-Level Extended Project Qualifications into a professionally published book available for the wider audience.
