You can apply for a US visa at the U.S. Embassy in Abuja or the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos.
How to Apply for a Non-Immigrant Visa – Application for US Visa Online
Step 1
For Non-immigrant US Visa application Online:
Determine your visa type by reading General Non-immigrant Visas . Each type of visa explains the requirements and documents for submission. Choose the type of visa that suits your situation.
Also be sure to read the Visa Waiver Program . Nigeria is not included in the Visa Waiver Program, so you have to apply for a visa.
Step 2
Once you have determined the appropriate visa type, you must pay the visa fee. The visa fee page lists the types of visas and related visa fees in US dollars and local currency.
To pay your visa fee, please see the bank selection and payment page. This page explains how to pay your visa fee. You must save the payment slip number to schedule your visa interview.
Step 3
The next step is to fill out the DS-160 form. Please make sure to read the instructions for filling out the DS-160 form carefully. All information must be true and accurate. Once the form is submitted, you cannot make changes. If you need assistance, please consult with immigration legal counsel or a translator. The help desk cannot help you complete your DS-160. You need your DS-160 number to schedule your interview.
Step 4
You’re almost ready to schedule your interview!
Now you need to create a profile

Complete all sections and create a password. Once you are logged into the system, you will see your home page. Click on Schedule an Interview on the left side of the menu.
- Passport number
- Proof of payment from Bank where you made the EFT payment. The receipt will be written CGI Virtual Account Number . You cannot schedule an interview without a CGI Virtual Account Number
- 10 digit barcode from your DS-160 confirmation page
- When you have gone through this process you will be able to choose your visa type, enter your personal data, add dependents, choose the location of sending your documents, confirm visa payment and finally, schedule your interview.
Step 5
Visit the American Embassy or Consulate General on the date and time of your visa interview. Be sure to check the Schedule My Interview page for information on the documents required for your interview.
Step 6
If your visa is approved, the visa will be sent to the location you specified when you scheduled your interview.
