UK Government Invites Nigerian Teachers for Work » Voice of Nigeria

The United Kingdom has announced that it will pay an annual salary of over N15 million to Nigerians who are willing to migrate there and work as teachers.

  • UK government offers N15 million pay to Nigerian teachers
  • According to a statement that may be found on the website of the UK government, qualified educators are able to apply.
  • The list included Nigeria, Ghana, Singapore, South Africa, and Hong Kong.

Beginning in February of the following year, the minimum annual salary requirement for Nigerian teachers moving to the United Kingdom will increase to a minimum of 15 million naira.

According to the information that is provided by the website of the United Kingdom’s government, which is located at www.gov.uk, guidance is offered to non-UK citizens who seek to teach in the United Kingdom but are qualified in a country outside of Europe. It should be noted that a teacher’s salary is influenced both by their qualifications and the region in which they teach.

Eligible countries

Early in the month of December, the United Kingdom reportedly added Nigeria to the list of African nations whose residents are eligible to apply for qualified teaching status through the United Kingdom’s teaching regulator beginning in February 2023.

Other countries include Hong Kong, India, Jamaica, Singapore, South Africa, Ukraine, and Zimbabwe. Ghana, Hong Kong, India, and Jamaica are also included.

According to The Punch, those who are interested in applying do not need to have their primary teaching qualifications in order to be eligible because the country provides a training program for those who are planning to emigrate.

According to reports from the United Kingdom, the starting salary for all qualified teachers will be at least 28,000 British pounds or greater for instructors employed in London.

The United Kingdom provided further information regarding the pay scale by location, stating that teachers in England (outside of London) would earn a minimum of £28,000 and a maximum of £38,810; on the other hand, beneficiary teachers in inner London will attract a sum of £34,502 as minimum pay and a sum of £44,756 as maximum pay.

The United Kingdom continued by saying, “You can be placed into the higher pay range for instructors if you can demonstrate excellence against all of the teaching standards.” This award is given to teachers who have made a significant and ongoing contribution to their school.

Schools have the authority to increase salaries on their own.

Each school decides on its own salary structure for eligible teaching candidates. It is expected that pay raises would always be based on performance rather than duration of service, and that these increases will be evaluated annually.

A detailed breakdown of compensation packages per place reveals that teachers in England, excluding London, would earn a minimum of £28,000 and a maximum of £38,810 for inner London. Beneficiary teachers will receive £34,502 as the minimum income, and £44,756 as the minimum payment.
