President Muhammadu Buhari-led government has revealed that the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) has uncovered 96 financiers of terrorism in the country.
According to the government, it found the reported persons guilty of supporting dreaded Boko Haram terrorists and the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP).
Naija News reports that the development was made known on Thursday by the nation’s Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed.
The minister who spoke during a briefing on the anti-corruption fight of President Muhammadu Buhari said NFIU has unmasked 424 associates/supporters of the financiers about 123 companies and 33 bureaux de change linked with terrorism.
Mohammed further said the agency has identified 26 suspected bandits/kidnappers and seven co-conspirators.
The government said 45 of the suspects will soon face trial.
The All Progressives Congress has finally informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the February 26 National Convention after months of contemplating.
The ruling party directed the letter dated February 2, 2022, with reference number APC/NHDQ/INEC/19/022/14, to the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu.
The letter was jointly signed by Sen. John Akpanudoedehe, the National Secretary; and the Chairman of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Mai Mala Buni.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila on Thursday angrily adjourned the House plenary shortly after sitting began.
Naija News understands the Speaker adjourned plenary as there was no order paper to guide the sitting of the lawmakers.
Gbajabiamila who was visibly angry about the development ordered the officer in charge to be redeployed to another unit and replaced immediately.
The Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum has warned that terrorists loyal to the Islamic State in West African Province (ISWAP) must not be allowed to spread their tentacles in Nigeria.
This is as he cautioned that ISWAP is more dangerous and deadlier than the Boko Haram insurgents. He added that the group is more educated and has access to more funds and other international terrorist organizations.
Speaking on Thursday in a chat with newsmen on the state on internal security, relocation of IDPs and collaborations between the state and the federal government at the presidential villa in Abuja, Zulum submitted that if the military does not crush the ISWAP fighters now, it can lead to greater trouble for the north-east region and the entire country.
The Borno State Governor warned that ISWAP can wreak more havoc than what Boko Haram has done, hence the need to shut them down before they grow too big.
The Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmaker on Thursday was taken to the Aso Rock Villa where he met with President Muhammadu Buhari.
Naija News reports Bwacha was taken to the Villa by the Chairman of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Gov Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State.
Bwacha is the Senator representing Taraba South in the red chamber of the National Assembly.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Thursday stated that its doors are open for peaceful engagement if the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government is ready for such.
IPOB in a statement released through its spokesman, Emma Powerful, noted that its leader, Nnamdi Kanu did not ask its members to relax the freedom fight, but advised them to embrace peace.
According to the outlawed group, “Before we enter into any peaceful engagement with Nigeria, Nigeria must show us that it is favourably disposed towards peace.”
Powerful claimed that the enemies of Biafra interpreted his statement wrongly to cause disaffection in the IPOB family, but the plan did not work.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced February 19 as the date for the conduct of the party’s primary election for the Osun 2022 governorship election.
The date was announced in a statement shared on the party’s social media pages on Thursday and signed by the National Secretary, APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe.
The statement also contained details of the APC revised timetable and schedule of activities for the conduct of the 2022 Governorship Primary Election in Osun State.
The party announced that governorship forms will cost ₦22.5million broken down as ₦20 million for the nomination form while the expression of interest form costs ₦2.5million.
However, female aspirants and physically challenged aspirants are to pay 50% of the prescribed fees.
The lawmaker representing Imo West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Rochas Okorocha on Thursday met with President Muhammadu Buhari.
The politician met with the president at the Aso Rock villa, Abuja over his presidential ambition.
According to Okorocha, he also informed Buhari about his unjust treatment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Okorocha had declared his intentions to run for presidency in 2023.
Not long after that, the EFCC filed N2.9 billion corruption charge against him. They alleged that it was the funds he embezzled while he was the sitting governor of Imo.
The Benin Republic authorities have been urged by the President of Agbekoya Worldwide, Kamorudeen Okiki, to release Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho or the group would use traditional means.
Okiki stated this while speaking at a peaceful rally held in Osogbo, where the group called for restructuring of the country.

One person has been killed and several others injured following a protest by parents of students prevented from wearing hijab at Oyun Baptist High School, Ijagbo, Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
It was gathered that hoodlums unleashed terror on peaceful protesters at the school who were protesting against the January 17th decision of authorities of the school to prevent hijab-wearing Muslim pupils from gaining access.
In a move to douse the tension, the Kwara State government ordered the immediate closure of the school, while directing that hijab or beret-wearing should be made optional in all grant-aided schools.
