The Block: ‘Villain’ Sharon Johal drops a major spoiler on live radio

The Block’s Sharon Johal has confirmed she and husband Ankur Dogra do finish their renovation, despite rumours they throw in the towel early.

Her revelation on SAFM’s Bec, Cosi & Lehmo on Friday is something of a spoiler for viewers, as the show has been teasing a ‘walk-off’ for the controversial couple.

The former Neighbours star, 35, confirmed they did end up completing the build, after deciding to take on the most ambitious renovation project this season.

‘A bit of a spoiler: We don’t walk off. We stay, we finish the whole thing and we have the biggest house of the biggest block for the eighteenth season,’ she said.

‘So [it was] pretty silly of us to pick that one, but we’ve finished it and it looks beautiful. I’m really proud of what we’ve been able to achieve.’

Sharon went on to address her feud with the couple’s builders, setting the record straight about what really went down on the Macedon Ranges building site.

‘I think the thing with the builders was some ideas that we had for the house… it was kind of just a bit naysayer-y,’ she said.

‘We just want to honour the home and do the best that we can for it.’

An all-out war erupted on The Block this week after Sharon and Ankur accused one of their tradies of using money from their budget to buy tiles for his own renovation.

Their shock claim, which aired during Monday’s episode of the Channel Nine renovation show, has been denied by the tradesman at the centre of the scandal, who unleashed on the Melbourne-based couple in a blistering Instagram post.

Scotty the chippie, whose last name hasn’t been revealed, said Sharon and Ankur had done nothing but ‘lie’ so far this season as he explained his side of the story.

He spoke out after Sharon doubled down on her accusations in a radio interview on Tuesday, telling HIT WA’s Allan & Carly Scotty had dipped into the couple’s budget to buy tiles for his own bathroom renovation, as well as taking sinks for his home.

When asked by one of the hosts if their carpenter had in fact stolen from them, Sharon replied: ‘Yes, one hundred per cent true. It was a really awkward situation we had to deal with.

‘It had been happening over a period of time and we tried to keep it behind the cameras because we know people have businesses and reputations to look after, but when they went at us for our budget, it just kind of came out.’

‘The thing that was gross – when we started talking about it during hallway week he said he was ordering them [the tiles] for our house. We didn’t need tiles for hallway week,’ she added.

The actress went on to say the couple lacked the support of their builders and tradies ‘from the beginning’.

Scotty has categorically rejected this account, taking to Instagram to clear his name.

‘So we have seen them lie and lie often, and then they throw out crazy accusations at me the other night,’ he wrote next to a photo of the couple on Monday’s episode.

He said he didn’t steal any basins and had in fact agreed to buy them from Sharon and Ankur, and explained that the tiles had been ordered during hallway week as forward planning because they can often take several weeks to arrive.

‘Yes, Sharon agreed to me buying the basins off her the week prior to this, as I reduced my hours from kitchen week a total of $400, so it’s not like I walked in one day and decided to steal basins. This was talked about for over a week,’ Scotty said.

He continued: ‘And the tiles were ordered in case laundry [week] was coming up as they take three weeks to make and was more of a contingency plan if needed.’

Scotty explained it’s often ‘hard to get the materials you want in time’ on The Block, which is why he ordered the tiles early, and that if Sharon and Ankur ended up not needing them they would have been returned for ‘credits’.

He said proof of his innocence is the fact he wasn’t kicked off the show immediately after Sharon made the allegations.

The Block has a zero-tolerance policy for theft, and if there was any truth to Sharon’s claims he would have been frogmarched off the construction site.

‘If I really stole, why would they have not fired me? Do you really think The Block wants to have people stealing from their sites? Why would the higher-ups not have kicked me off site?’ he said.

‘It’s all been a beat-up as it seems [Sharon and Ankur] wanted to get rid of us for weeks.

‘But they continued to string us “lazy a**holes” along to finish the house so they could get their entitled prize money.’

When contacted for comment on Wednesday, Scotty confirmed to Daily Mail Australia he ‘did plan to use the basins on my home renovation’ but was willing to pay for them as he had stated before.

He added: ‘The tiles were ordered in case they were wanted for laundry week, but it turns out the tilers never even picked them up [after they went unused], which I didn’t find out until after that confrontation in the hallway.’

Scotty clarified it was ‘the floor tiles that were ordered, not the wall tiles’ as was implied on the show, adding that there were some pink wall tiles left over due to a ‘last-minute change in the second master bedroom’.

Channel Nine declined to comment.
