Snow White star Rachel Zegler breaks cover in NYC amid Trump backlash… as movie budget balloons to $269M

Rachel Zegler broke cover in New York City on Sunday amid severe backlash for criticizing newly-elected President Donald Trump and his supporters.

The 23-year-old actress failed to crack a smile as she walked her beloved 20-month-old dog Lenny. 

Her outing also comes amid reports that the controversial remake of Snow White – in which she plays the titular role – has already blown its budget, ballooning to a hefty $269.4 million before it’s even been released. 

Meanwhile, Zegler recently doubled down online after her candidate Kamala Harris was defeated at the polls.

On election night, Zegler lamented ‘another four years of hatred’ that would ‘lean us towards a world I do not want to live in,’ and she cursed: ‘May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.’

‘There is a deep, deep sickness in this country that is shown in the sheer amount of people who showed up for this man who threatens our democracy,’ the half-Colombian beauty – who boasts 2.3M Instagram followers – wrote on November 4.

‘It is a foolish subscription to a false sense of security, of masculinity, of intelligence, of patriotism, and of humanity.’

A source told DailyMail.com on Saturday that ‘it has just been one disaster after another’ with Rachel and Disney execs ‘are scared that a huge audience will steer clear from the film as their own boycott, costing the film tons of money.’

Last Thursday, Zegler was clearly feeling the pressure as she issued a formal apology for her comments.

‘I would like to sincerely apologize for the election post I shared on Instagram last week,’ The Hunger Games actress wrote via Instastory.

‘I let my emotions get the best of me. Hatred and anger have caused us to move further and further away from peace and understanding, and I am sorry I contributed to the negative discourse. This week has been emotional for so many of us, but I firmly believe that everyone has the right to their opinion, even when it differs from my own. I am committed to contributing positively towards a better tomorrow.’

But one look at Rachel’s latest Instagram post shows the backlash has only strengthened since her apology.

‘We are just common, ordinary citizens,’ Instagram user @theenchantedgardener69 commented. ‘Why do you wish us harm?’

Instagram user @timv777 blasted: ‘Sorry, apology not accepted. You just said that [because] two movies are coming out and you want people to pay you lol!’

‘Bye bye. You’re cancelled,’ Instagram user @ladyceleste39 commented.

Instagram user @p_k_h24_ wrote: ‘The worst endorsement Disney has ever had.’

‘Boycott her and her Disney movie!’ Instagram user @jacquieloewen commented.

‘If you were really sorry, you would make a proper post,’ Instagram user @troofhurt wrote. ‘Not a story.’

Last month, Zegler told Cosmopolitan of the backlash to her Snow White casting: ‘For being brown. For having brown skin. For playing Snow White. There was a lot of harassment from a certain group of people. They were showing up at my apartment and screaming profanities.’

The outspoken Zoomer takes on the titular Disney Princess in Marc Webb’s $209M-budget ‘PC’ live-action remake of the Brothers Grimm fairytale – hitting US/UK theaters March 21 – opposite Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen and a slew of CGI dwarves.

Rachel previously criticized David Hand’s 1937 original animated film as ‘extremely dated when it comes to the ideas of women being in roles of power and what a woman is fit for in the world.’

‘The original cartoon came out in 1937, and very evidently so,’ Zegler scoffed to Extra TV in 2022.

‘There’s a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird. So we didn’t do that this time.’

The New Jersey native just made her Broadway debut as Juliet in Sam Gold’s musical adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet (featuring music by Jack Antonoff), which runs through February 16 at Circle in the Square Theatre in Manhattan.

Rachel voices Lumbria Kingdom Princess Ellian in Skydance Animation’s animated film Spellbound – premiering this Friday on Netflix – alongside Nicole Kidman, Javier Bardem, Nathan Lane, Tituss Burgess, John Lithgow, and Jenifer Lewis.

Zegler will also portray Laura in Kyle Mooney’s 1999-set disaster comedy Y2K – hitting US theaters December 6 – alongside Jaeden Martell, Julian Dennison, Fred Durst, and Alicia Silverstone.
