Small business owner hits back at ‘rude’ TikTok star Sopha Dopha after argument over $125 ceramic mug
Controversial influencer Sopha Dopha has come under fire over claims she was ‘rude’ to a small business owner.
Her ‘sippy cup drama’ began when the social media star shared a video of her Christmas shopping haul, which included a handmade strawberry sippy cup purchased from ceramic artist Shelby Sherritt at Sydney‘s Finders Keepers Market.
The 20-year-old, whose real name is Sophia Begg, shared her shock over the price of the small ceramic double-handled cup, which was $125, and claimed she wanted to back out of the purchase but was unable to.
However, in a since deleted video, Shelby hit back at Sopha and claimed the TikToker ‘lied’ about what really happened.
‘It’s also deeply upsetting to have someone not only question you as a business owner and lie about how I interacted with you, but to also have you question my pricing when you too also run a small business,’ said Shelby.

‘I then explained to you, like I explained to every single person that came to my store over that weekend, that all the prices were placed on the bottom and you can pick up, handle, you don’t have to purchase anything. You can just enjoy my store because I get it. Times are tough right now.’
Shelby continued: ‘And then I showed you other pieces that I had left because they were so popular I barely had any of them left. I showed you and I even told you the price of them.
‘After that you handed me the one that you’re going to go and I was like, “awesome pick.”
‘I asked you, like I asked everyone that weekend, whether you would like tissue paper or a bit more padding, because I wanted to make sure that the piece was safe wherever they were travelling to that day and I didn’t wrap it until I had an answer and I then I gave you the Eftpos machine to tap your card.’

Shelby also noted in her video that the piece Sopha purchased was part of the business’s ‘dignity mugs category’ and has the double handle to assist people with disabilities.
‘I didn’t realise how much [the mug] was,’ Sopha claimed in her initial video. ‘I f***ing look at the Eftpos machine, $125!’
‘Look how small this mug is, it’s literally tiny,’ she added, saying that she was unable to void the purchase as it had already been wrapped.
Sopha Dopha later made a second video to detail her version of events after fans slammed her and claimed she said that Shelby’s ‘pieces weren’t worth the price’.

‘In my personal opinion, I thought I didn’t expect it to be that much for a little mug,’ Sopha explained.
‘I never said anything in the video that the price wasn’t worth that, that it was not deserving of that price.
‘Why would I lie about this? Why would I make a TikTok saying that I had no idea what the price was if I knew the price?’
Elsewhere, the blonde claimed she didn’t even realise the mug had two handles, before ranting about how she’s sick of people using her name negatively for attention.

‘This did not happen. I don’t know why people feel like they can make videos saying my name and just throwing absolute lies in there to get views,’ she continued.
‘I didn’t even say anything bad. All I said was that I did not know it had two handles. And I was shocked because I didn’t expect it to be that expensive. God bloody shoot me. Like oh my god.’
‘I don’t understand why things get blown out of proportion so much and why people think they can just throw my name into things and why? Because it gets really exhausting,’ the influencer added.
The ongoing feud between the content creators has recieved a mixed reaction among fans, with many siding with each.
‘I don’t even follow Soph but it’s so clear her intentions weren’t malicious. She just couldn’t believe she accidentally got a $125 mug,’ one TikTok user said.
Sopha Dopha’s backlash comes after speculation she was rude to a DJ at the TikTok Awards last year. DJ Maddy Spencer posted a fiery video calling out a ‘big creator’ for allegedly snubbing her at the event
‘Lets all be honest 125 for a mug is INSANE,’ added another.
‘How on earth did you not notice that it has two handles?’ someone questioned, while another added, ‘Not noticing it had 2 handles was such a lie lol.’

‘Sorry, but this pi**es me off SO MUCH. If you’re going to make a vid like this at least have the balls to say who it is. Because now every comment is saying it’s me,’ she said.
Sopha added the ‘rude’ influencer in question could not have been her as she didn’t even attend the pre-party where the incident allegedly occured.
‘I didn’t even know there was a pre-party or a DJ there at all. Do you feel good knowing the comments are ripping on a 19 year old, when it wasn’t her, just to get views?’ she said.
Sopha’s fans quickly rallied to her support on social media.
‘That girl seems really rude in the video tbh. Making a video about it for attention,’ wrote fellow influencer Kurt Coleman as another person added: ‘Everyone’s so mean to her for no reason.’
