Opinion: How can Lampard help Chelsea’s Super Eagles-eligible AM break the youth barrier?
The transfer window has now got to the point where all clubs have to show their hands in order to get their first-choice players ahead of the late window rush.
As reported by 90 Min, Everton are interested in signing Chelsea’s Super Eagles-eligible attacking midfielder Faustino Anjorin.
The report claims that the Toffees are looking to bolster their squad after narrowly avoiding relegation last season and Anjorin is a player being considered for the midfield department.
Anjorin is currently with the Chelsea squad in the United States of America for pre-season preparations and a decision on his future is expected to be made by manager Thomas Tuchel after the tour.
The biggest step in a young player’s career is making the step up from youth football into full-time senior football and while it is not yet known if an agreement will be reached between Chelsea and Everton or whether it will be on a temporary or permanent basis, allnigeriasoccer.com takes a look at how ex-Chelsea boss Frank Lampard can help Anjorin break the youth barrier.
It is important to note that Lampard knows Anjorin from his time at Chelsea and handed the Nigerian his Carabao Cup, FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League debuts against Grimsby Town, Morecambe, Everton and Krasnodar respectively.
Lampard is a ‘proactive’ manager who wants to play possession-based football and while he threw those principles out of the window to keep Everton up in the Premier League, targeting Anjorin makes it obvious that he wants to go back to his preferred style of play.
While Anjorin had a loan stint at Huddersfield, it is obvious that those teams cannot consistently play a brand of football that suits his qualities.
Playing Anjorin in the right setup for his qualities would no doubt help the youngster to a breakthrough season.
Another thing youngsters need to break the youth barrier is adequate playing time. Having given him his debuts, it is quite obvious that barring unforeseen circumstances, Anjorin would have enough chances if he gets to play under Lampard.
A combination of adequate game time in the right set-up will no doubt give Anjorin the right base to step up and break the youth football barrier.
