Okorocha’s ALGON chairmen make u-turn on forceful take over of offices
The 2018 local government council chairmen in Imo State, who served under former Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha have rescinded their decision to forcefully take over offices of the 27 LGAs.
The take over was earlier scheduled for today, November 30, 2020.
In a press release signed by the Acting Chairman of ALGON, Chinwe Obinna and made available to newsmen, he disclosed that the chairmen resolved to withdraw from the proposed take over in order to concentrate more on the forthcoming Imo North Senatorial bye-election billed for December 5th.
The ALGON, according to him, has a role to play towards delivering the candidate of APC, senator Ifeanyi Araraume.
The local government chairmen and councillors who are predominantly members of the ruling party, noted that the party’s participation in the Imo north bye-election and the involvement of their colleagues in the 6 LGAs of Okigwe zone, is considered to be substantial impediment to their proposed take over.
“We wish to inform the good people of Imo state that the planned resumption of duty earlier scheduled for Monday, 30th November, 2020 has been rescheduled.
“As we are all aware, the Executive chairmen, Vice chairmen, councillors and other officers of the local government are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the party leadership has shown enormous support in our genuine efforts to resume duty and serve out the tenure freely given to us by Imo people.
“However, the Imo north senatorial election scheduled for 5th December is considered to be substantial impediment to our collective resolve. This is because, among other things, our colleagues in the 6LGAs of the zone are deeply involved in the bye election exercise. The involvement of our party is also another factor against our plans.
“We, therefore, call on Imo people to keep faith with us as we join our colleagues in solidarity to ensure the smooth delivery of Senator Ifeanyi Araraume in December 5th Imo north bye election.
“As expected, the purported judgement of the state High Court presided over by Justice Njamenze has gone further to establish the fact that sometimes, justice is for sale.
“We have already consulted our lawyer to appeal the judgement and get it vacated immediately.
“We thank the good people of Imo state for the support, solidarity and encouragement so far extended to us, the elected Executive Chairmen and we promise not to let you down.
“Finally, we call on the entire Imo north electorates to support Senator Ifeanyi Araraume for Saturday, December election who is the authentic Imo north APC candidate,” he concluded.
