NL Review!! Is Crayon’s “Ijo Laba Laba” Going To Be The Next Big Hit On The Streets? » Naijaloaded
I’m proud to say I was on the Crayon train long before most people.
When the youngster got his first introduction in 2019, with his “Cray Cray” debut EP, I was one of the first group of people that quickly became fans. Not because he was a Mavin or anything, but because I could understand his music.
That’s the thing about what Crayon does. Everyone can understand it. That’s the way he has always done it. You just know why he’s saying that line that way, why he’s pitching that note the way he is doing it. It’s the kind of music that’s so fascinating you feel a connection to it.
Somehow, it didn’t quite catch on, and much to my dismay, Crayon went under the radar. He didn’t get his big moment in the industry and he had to keep working to prove himself—something he could’ve done once and for all in 2019.
It took two years to come up with another EP. That EP, “Twelve AM” was the beginning of good things for Crayon. The EP had the “Too Correct” hit he did with Rema, and things started to happen for Crayon again.
His big moment, which has been delayed for quite enough, came finally. Two months ago, when he took the lead on the Mavin collective song, “Overdose.” The song became his first number #1 hit and the song that has put him back on the radar.
For the first time, most Nigerian listeners know what he can do and they’re excited for him. Crayon’s not about to take that for granted. He’s gonna strike while the iron is hot and get himself out there by all means.
This simple analysis explains what his new track, “Ijo Laba Laba” is all about. It’s a song about a new dance that Crayon is hoping will catch on and make a mark in the industry. The amapiano-laced single is a freestyle with the typical Nigerian “forget your worries, get up and dance” theme.
Really, that’s all there is to it. But it kinda has a viral touch to it. If this goes viral (I’m betting on it), that will make Crayon one of those artists we need to watch actively from now on. Because boy’s got a huge load of talent, and his consistency is now something to talk about.
“Ijo Laba Laba” may be the song that takes Crayon to the moon. Or it might not be. Whatever it becomes, it would never stop being a good song with potential.
