Nigerians abroad: Chukwueze, Maja, Idowu assist; Momoh, Agade on target

At the Estadio de la Cerámica, Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze played his part to help Villarreal avoid a home defeat as the Yellow Submarines forced Atletico Bilbao to a 1-1 draw.

Chukwueze supplied the assist for Pedraza to net the equaliser for Unai Emery’s men at the hour mark after Raul Garcia had given the visitors a 43rd-minute lead.

In the Greece Super League, Adedeji Dauda followed up from scoring his side’s winner last week by starring in Apollon Smirnis’s 2-1 win at OFI.

Dauda set up Andoni’s opening goal for the away team in first-half stoppage time, and Slivka netted the winner 12 minutes from time, after Luiz Phellype had equalised for the hosts in the 70th minute.

In Israel, Nigeria attacker William Agade scored his sixth leave goal of the campaign, but it was not enough to help Hapoel Jerusalem avoid a 2-1 loss at Ironi Kiryat Shmona.

Agade’s 69th-minute strike was sandwiched between Shviro’s 18th-minute opener and Shaker’s 79th-minute winner for the landlords at the Kiryat-Shmona Municipal Stadium.

Nigeria’s Akor Adams and Igoh Ogbu were on target as Lillestrøm handed Jerv a 4-0 thrashing on matchday two of Norway’s Eliteserien.

Adams broke the deadlock in the 12th minute of the encounter, while Ogbu added the match’s third midway through the second half.

Adams, 22, now has two goals in as many games after netting the late effort that earned his side the 2-2 draw at Hamkam last weekend.

Former Super Eagles full-back Bryan Idowu was one of the star performers as Khimki forced a 4-2 defeat down the throat of Chidera Ejuke’s CSKA Moscow in the Russia Premier League.

Nigerian youngster Francis Momoh ended his seven league games without a goal in Grasshopper’s 2-2 draw at home to Luzern.

The 21-year-old attacker doubled Grasshopper’s lead in the 29th minute following Arigoni’s opening strike 16 minutes earlier. But the hosts failed to hold on for the win as Luzern struck twice in the second half to earn a share of the points.

Nigeria international Semi Ajayi had an afternoon to forget as West Bromwich Albion fell to a 1-3 defeat to Josh Maja’s Stoke City at the Hawthorns.

While Ajayi played from start to finish, Maja only entered the pitch in the 76th minute, with the scoreboard reading 2-1 in favour of the Potters.

And Maja still had enough time to assist Lewis Baker’s 94th-minute goal that sealed the win for the visitors.
