Nicolas Cage reveals shock new career away from acting
TINSELTOWN’S Nicolas Cage has followed the likes of Jay-Z and Kendall Jenner and launched his own booze brand.
The Con Air actor has trademarked Nick Cage for a new bourbon, which insiders say is a passion project.
A source said: “It’s become the ‘in thing’ in Hollywood to have your own brand of drink.
“It can be extremely lucrative.
“Nic is a whisky and bourbon man and is branching out into that.
“He has great taste so this will be good stuff.”
I’m glad to hear it.
But Nic is no stranger at hitting the bottle for work.
Director Mike Figgis revealed the star got into character to play an alcoholic screenwriter in cult 1995 film Leaving Las Vegas — by getting plastered.
Mike said: “He wanted to do the entire film drunk.
“I told him, ‘I need you to be completely compos mentis’ but he did one scene off his face.
“He drank a bottle of vodka before it.
“I was very angry with him because he didn’t tell me.
“Somebody got injured and he smashed the equipment.”
And in Vegas in 2021, onlookers mistook Nic for a homeless man when he was kicked out of a restaurant after appearing to drink too much expensive whiskey.
He had the last laugh a few months ago, though, when he starred in The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent — a film loosely based on his life.
I’m a fan of pretty much anything Nic does, so I hope this bourbon is half-decent.
ELLIE LEAFS CHART RIVALS GREEN
ECO warrior Ellie Goulding is going natural in her fight to save the planet.
She wore this forest-themed bra top and trousers with matching coat for a performance at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles.
The Let It Die singer has jetted to the US to promote her upcoming record Higher Than Heaven, which is out next month, and is flying high on home turf, too.
She looks set to land her highest-charting single in three years tomorrow, after teaming up with Calvin Harris for the song Miracle.
It was at No3 in the midweek chart update on Monday, just behind Miley Cyrus‘s Flowers and PinkPantheress Boy’s A Liar.
It is their third song together and Ellie reckons their similarities make them a perfect pair.
Speaking on Apple Music 1, she said: “I feel we’re quite low-key and we just like to make music and let it set sail. And we play shows. We love to play live.”
ED SHEERAN has revealed his new single Eyes Closed is a tribute to his late friend Jamal Edwards.
The music mogul helped launch Ed’s career but died from heart problems in February last year aged 31, leaving the superstar devastated.
Thinking Out Loud singer Ed, who will release the track on Friday, March 24, said: “This song is about losing someone, feeling like every time you go out you expect to just bump into them, and everything just reminds you of them and things you did together.
“You sorta have to take yourself out of reality sometimes to numb the pain of loss, but certain things just bring you right back into it.”
Appearing to quote lyrics, he added on Instagram: “Blue was Jamal’s colour, but now is all I feel.
“And I guess music helps heal, so I’m dancing with my eyes closed to try to get through it.”
Rob goes logo
IT’S a good thing Robbie Williams has millions of fans because he isn’t one of them.
The Rock DJ singer has been wearing this personalised football shirt on tour, which features a rude emblem that reads: “The Anti Robbie Society”.
He is even selling the T-shirts as merchandise for fans.
Robbie has been on the road since the beginning of January for the European leg of his XXV tour, celebrating 25 years of solo hits.
It will continue until August when he will return to the UK for two special shows on the Sandringham Estate, Norfolk.
If he isn’t already tired of his songs, I imagine he will be by then.
BILLIE’S LOOK TO TIE FOR
BILLIE Eilish took the black tie dress code literally when she wore this outfit to a TV show premiere.
The Happier Than Ever singer posed in an oversized white shirt with the tie for the launch of new horror series Swarm in Los Angeles on Tuesday evening.
The horror thriller, which will launch on Amazon Prime tomorrow, has been created by Donald Glover, who is also known as musician Childish Gambino.
Billie is expected to make her acting debut in the series as a character called Eva, although details are being kept firmly under wraps.
In recent months she has been working on her third album but if this goes well, perhaps an alternative career on screen beckons.
I Popped on Cara’s knickers
MOST people nick stuff from their siblings, but Cara Delevingne‘s sister Poppy took things to the next level when she slipped into the star’s diamond-encrusted underwear.
Actress Poppy said she was visiting Cara in LA when she found the designer knickers which she wore, then returned to her closet so Cara wouldn’t find out.
She explained: “I want most things that are in her wardrobe. Her wardrobe is almost museum-like.
“When I was last in LA with her, there was a Dior thong covered in crystals and I wore it around the house for about an hour just so I could say in my mind that I’d worn it, and then I put it back.”
Speaking on the This Old Thing? podcast, she added: “I knew that if I wore it longer or if I took it home with me, she’d never forgive me.”
The least she could have done was give it a wash.
Sam bad hair day
SAM RYDER was left mortified when he met Taylor Swift – as his long locks got tangled in her earring.
Last year’s Eurovision runner-up, who was introduced to her at the American Music Awards in November, recalled: “My hair got caught in Taylor’s earring. I had to pull it out.
“By the way, that was the first time I’d met anyone actually like a proper celebrity. And that was a good start.”
Asked how Taylor reacted, the Space Man singer joked: “She was like, ‘Get out of my face, never look at me again’. Nah, she was lovely.”
It’s not the only downside he has experienced from his waist-length tresses.
Speaking on the Life’s A Beach podcast, Sam admitted he is often mistaken for a woman from behind.
Might be time for a trim.
SHOW FANS APPAULED
PAUL MESCAL missed out on the Oscar for Best Actor on Sunday but a ridiculous payday will put a smile back on his face.
However, his fans aren’t quite so cheerful after seeing the sky-high ticket prices for his West End show A Streetcar Named Desire.
The Normal People actor had been performing in the show at a small theatre in Islington, North London, since December but demand grew so much that it has been moved to the West End’s Phoenix Theatre for a longer run.
And fans were left outraged when tickets went on sale this week, as the cheapest one with a clear view is priced at an eye-watering £200. Premium seats, meanwhile, are going for a whopping £300.
A slightly more affordable ticket costs £77.50, but is only cheaper because it offers a “restricted view” of the stage.
One fan complained on Twitter: “It feels like half the industry is working its socks off to make theatre accessible and the other half’s like, ‘Nahhhh, you’re alright’.”
The show, which received six Olivier Award nominations, will run from March 20 to May 6, after which Paul will go into rehearsals for the Gladiator sequel, which is being filmed this summer.
Whether there was a cost-of-living crisis or not, prices like that for an evening out at the theatre are enough to put me off for good.
