Tinubu: APC May Not Win Without Muslim-Muslim Ticket – Orji Kalu
The Chief Whip of the 9th Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu on Wednesday spoke on the All Progressives Congress fielding a Muslim/Muslim ticket in the 2023 presidential election.
According to Kalu, the ruling party will find it difficult to win the presidential election if it fails to present a Muslim as its Vice Presidential candidate.
The former Governor of Abia State while addressing newsmen at the National Assembly on Wednesday said APC will be in trouble if it does not field a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
Kalu while speaking on the controversial issue said “If I were in Bola Tinubu’s shoes, I would go for a Muslim-Muslim ticket; the most important thing is for the party to win.
Atiku: PDP NWC Backs Panel Report, Endorses South-South Governor For Running Mate
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national working committee (NWC) on Wednesday backed Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State as the vice-presidential candidate of the party for the 2023 elections.
It was gathered that the PDP NWC wants Wike to be the running mate of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
According to TheCable, NWC members voted 13-3 to endorse the report of the panel which had earlier nominated Wike for the VP ticket.
Sources revealed that members of the PDP NWC has also communicated their decision to Atiku Abubakar.
Ekiti Guber Election: Only The Living Can Benefit From Democracy – Kukah Warns
The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Bishop Matthew Kukah has chared the people of Ekiti State to eschew violence before, during and after the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, June 18.
The clergyman who made the call in Ekiti on Wednesday stated that he is in the state as a representative of the National Peace Committee to appeal to all stakeholders to ensure peace reigns.
According to him, only the living can reap the benefits of democracy, hence the need for the people of the state to embrace peace.
Kukah disclosed that so far, the people of Ekiti have acted in a peaceful manner. He, therefore, enjoined them to sustain the tempo.
PDP Fixes Date To Submit Names Of VP Nominees To Atiku
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will today submit the names of the nominees for the Vice President slot to its Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for consideration.
Sources close to the party informed THISDAY that the PDP National Working Committee, NWC, would submit the three names to Atiku in order to choose his preferred candidate.
The sources added that the names of the nominees were chosen by the PDP Advisory Committee set up to assist Atiku to choose a running mate.
Naija News gathered that the PDP NWC will be meeting this afternoon to decide on the recommendations made by the various consultative committees set up to select a vice-presidential candidate for the party.
It is understood that the committee had voted in favour of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to emerge as Atiku’s running mate.
It was gathered that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and Governor Udom Emmanuel came second and third respectively in the vote.
Muslim-Muslim Ticket: Nigerians Haven’t Benefited From Political Leaders’ Religion – Baba-Ahmed
The Spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has reacted to the speculation that the All Progressives Congress will be fielding a Muslim/Muslim ticket in the 2023 presidential election.
Naija News reports that there have been different reactions to the speculation that the ruling APC may field a Muslim as the running mate of the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, in the 2023 presidential election.
Some APC chieftains in their reactions have asked Nigerians to ignore the religion of the party’s presidential candidate and his running mate but focus on their competence, while many people and groups such as the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Catholic Church have rejected the plan by the ruling party to field a Muslim/Muslim ticket.
In an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday, Baba-Ahmed said the debate on the religion of the presidential candidates and their intended running mates is unnecessary.
The NEF spokesman claimed that ordinary Nigerians no longer care about the religious background of their political leaders but their competence.
Atiku In Closed-door Meeting With PDP Govs Over Running Mate
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar is reportedly in a closed-door meeting with governors elected under the opposition party to deliberate on pressing issues ahead of the 2023 polls.
Naija News learnt that the meeting which started at about 2:30 PM in Abuja today was aimed at addressing issues surrounding the candidate’s choice of running mate.
A notice of the meeting according to Vanguard, was put out earlier today by the Secretariat of the PDP Governors Forum and signed by the Director-General of the PDP GF, CID Maduagbanam.
The PDP National Working Committee, NWC are said to have made arrangement to submit three names to Atiku to choose his preferred candidate.

The Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Kola Balogun, has explained why he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
Recall Kola Balogun resigned his membership of PDP on 3rd May 2022 following the refusal of the PDP to give him a return ticket to the Senate.
Kola Balogun in his defection letter read at the plenary on Wednesday, 15th June said his decision to dump Oyo State’s ruling party was due to the lack of internal democracy in the party at the state level which he claimed prevented the formation of leaders and representatives.
He added that the development has further led to the existence of several factions and aggrieved groups within the party.
Balogun blamed Governor Seyi Makinde of impunity and single-handedness in handling PDP affairs in the state.
Muslim-Muslim Ticket: APC Reportedly Picks NorthWest Governor As Bola Tinubu’s Running Mate
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has reportedly been chosen as the running mate of the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Naija News reports that this was made known in a statement to newsmen issued by the Director-General of Ganduje’s Support Group, Suleiman Magaji.
According to the statement, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC picked Ganduje to run alongside Tinubu in the 2023 general election based on his loyalty to the ruling party, commitment and infrastructural development of his state.
The group admitted that the issue of religion was extensively discussed during the selection.
However, they stated that Nigerians are more interested in developmental stride rather than religious affairs.
Tinubu Breaks Silence On Running Mate’s Region, Speaks On Muslim-Muslim Ticket

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied reports that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has emerged as the running mate to the party’s flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar.
The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, made this known in an interview on Arise News on Wednesday.
Naija News earlier reported that the PDP committee set up to recommend a Vice-presidential candidate for Atiku has reportedly picked Wike as his running mate.
While picking Wike as its first option, the panel said the governor as the vice-presidential candidate will do better for the ticket than his other challengers.
Other candidates considered for the PDP presidential ticket are Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State.
But according to Ologunagba, the report that Wike had been chosen as the running mate to Atiku is just mere rumour and speculation.
He stated that the PDP would announce the running mate to its presidential candidate after the panel constituted to look for a suitable candidate is done with its assignment.
2023: We’ve Settled Our Quarrels In APC – Tinubu
The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has said that members of the ruling party have settled their internal issues.
Tinubu stated this in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday at a mega rally held to canvass votes for the APC governorship candidate, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, ahead of Saturday’s election in the state.
He stated that the ruling party has settled its differences and is now united to achieve victory in the Ekiti governorship election and retain power at the centre in 2023.
Tinubu commended Buhari for supporting the clamour for the return of power to the South in 2023 with him emerging as the APC Presidential candidate to unite the country.
