Kym Marsh details touching tribute to stillborn son Archie at wedding to Scott Ratcliff

Kym Marsh has shared details from her emotional wedding to fiancé Scott Ratcliff at Sandhurst Military Academy on October 16.

Discussing their stunning military-inspired nuptials, the Coronation Street star, 45, described tying the knot with army major Scott, 33, as the ‘best day ever’.

Following a stunning ceremony held at the Royal Memorial Chapel, the newlyweds hosted a champagne reception, before moving guests to tears with emotional speeches as they filled their wedding day with personal touches – including Kym’s sweet tribute to stillborn son Archie.

The ceremony marked Kym’s third wedding ceremony, as she was previously married to EastEnders star Jack Ryder and Hollyoaks’ Jamie Lomas.

Sharing their big day with OK! magazine, Kym revealed how she purposely wore a cherub necklace with her Carolina Herrera bridal gown, as it represents her baby boy who died at birth.

Kym lost her son, Archie, with ex-husband Jamie Lomas in 2009 after giving birth at only 23 weeks.

The actress is mum to three children, David, 26, Emilie, 24, and Polly, 10, and explained how they bought her a cherub necklace to symbolise Archie as a gift on Mother’s Day.

Wanting to wear it on her wedding day to ‘represent’ Archie, Kym also had yellow roses dotted around the venue to ‘symbolise’ her son as a yellow rose is his flower.

Only commissioned officers can wed at Sandhurst, with Kym and Scott revealing it was so ‘special’ to say I Do at the stunning venue, before hosting their wedding reception in another room on site and a marquee, where the couple’s 152 guests dined on prawn cocktail, chicken supreme and sticky toffee pudding.

On the day, Kym was flanked by a huge bridal party, including her kids, grandchildren Teddy and Polly, and Scott’s daughter Renee, as well as her bridesmaids, headed up by her Corrie co-star Alison King, and Anthony Cotton, who acted as Master of Ceremonies.

Corrie stars Jane Danson, Tristan Gemmill, Chris Gascoyne, Sally-Anne Matthews and Ryan Prescott were all in attendance, as were other celebrity guests including Carol Vorderman, Hear’Say star Danny Foster, TV presenter Gethin Jones and Strictly Come Dancing star Janette Manrara.

Kym’s father, who has been diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer, walked her down the aisle, before moving guests to tears with his speech.

‘Dad received a standing ovation before he even started, because of the courage and strength it took him to do the job he did that day,’ Kym said of her father’s speech.

‘There was so much respect for him in the room,’ she added.

The entire day was filled with personal touches –  the wedding ceremony including a reading of a poem Scott, who was dressed in his military uniform for the nuptials, had penned for Kym while on tour in Afghanistan and Kym’s daughter Emilie sang the pair’s first dance song, country ballad Then by Brad Paisley.

Scott’s army peers also carried out a military parade, which saw them draw swords to create an arch for the newly married couple to walk under.

‘It really was the best day ever. It was exactly what we hoped it would be and more,’ Kym revealed to the publication, as Scott gushed how bride Kym looked so ‘elegant’ on the day, he was lost for words.

The couple exchanged wedding rings during the ceremony, with Kym opting for a diamond encrusted band and Scott personalising his ring with the pair’s wedding date and their nicknames ‘Ratty and Marshy’ engraved on the inside.

Kym – who plans to take Scott’s last name for personal use now they’re married – and husband Scott are planning to head on an exotic honeymoon in December, with Kym revealing the pair are eyeing up an island for peace and quiet and to enjoy some quality time together.

Gushing about her husband, Kym said that she feels like Scott ‘saved her’ after years of being ‘unlucky in love’.

‘Neither of us were looking for love when we fell for each other. He is my best friend and loves me no matter what. He’s always so supportive and loving to me,’ Kym said.

Sharing her regret that she never got to say anything about Scott during their wedding – instead issuing necessary thanks to those that helped on the day – she added: ‘I wish I’d stood up and said that, but I’m saying it now!’

The couple have been dating since July 2018 and confirmed their engagement in June.

Throughout their relationship, they have had to endure long stints of separation as Scott serves abroad, with Kym admitting last April that, at the time, they had been apart for seven months.

Kym told The Sun at the Military Awards in 2018: ‘He is due to go back to Afghanistan next year for six months. It is tough, but I know we can make it work and we will be fine.

‘He’s just got back from a training exercise in Kenya, so tonight was the first time we have seen each other in weeks.’

Kym has been married twice previously. She wed former EastEnders star Jack Ryder in 2002, but later divorced in 2009.

She then went on to marry ex Jamie in 2012 and the couple share daughter Polly. Just over a year after tying the knot, Kym filed from divorce from Jamie in 2013 citing ‘unreasonable behaviour’.

Prior to dating Scott, Kym was in a relationship with ex-boyfriend Matt Barker for two years. Three months after their split, she found love with military man Scott.
