Euro 2021 news live: Latest England updates as 26-man selection confirmed
Countdown to Euro 2020: Daily briefing
Follow all the latest updates as England begin their Euro 2020 preparations after Gareth Southgate confirmed his final 26-man squad.
The big debate had been over which right-back the Three Lions would be heading into the tournament without; ultimately the manager has chosen all four of them, with Trent Alexander-Arnold making the cut as well as Reece James, Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker.
Now the expectation will be on at least one of them playing a different rule to usual during the course of the competition, as Southgate bids to get the best out of the talent at his disposal. Teenager Jude Bellingham is one of them as is Jack Grealish with Jesse Lingard, James Ward-Prowse and Ollie Watkins among those omitted from the final squad.
Attention now turns to the warm-up games – beginning with Austria in Middlesbrough tonight – as the fitness of players are assessed ahead of the tournament starting next week. Both Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson are facing a “tight” race to be fit for the opening game against Croatia on 13 June, but Lingard will start tonight despite missing out on selection.

HOW TO WATCH FRANCE VS WALES TONIGHT
France and Wales face off tonight as both nations step up their Euro 2020 preparations.
It will of course be a big challenge for Rob Page’s Dragons to keep the world champions at bay, but with another big side Italy to face in the group phase at this summer’s tournament, it’s a good opportunity for Wales to fine-tune their defensive organisation.
For France, the expectation is simply to win every game – though this hasn’t come easily of late. The big talking point is the return to the squad of Karim Benzema, and it will be fascinating to watch him develop a partnership with Kylian Mbappe.

KANE’S READY FOR EUROS, ARE YOU?
There are just nine days left until the Euros kick-off but there is plenty of football action before then.
England will take on Austria on Wednesday and Romania on Sunday in warm-up matches for the tournament.
The captain Harry Kane has shared his excitement for the Euros on Twitter, can he and the team bring football home to England?

KANE’S CLUB UNCERTAINTY WON’T IMPACT EUROS
England captain Harry Kane may not know where he is playing his club football next season but Alan Shearer believes it won’t impact his form at the Euros.
Manchester United, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are among the clubs wanting to sign Kane from Spurs.
Shearer said: “But with the talent (in the squad), with the added options of our full-backs – whether he plays three or four at the back – then I’m pretty sure that Harry will score goals and will be right up there challenging for that Golden Boot.
“I’ve no doubt about that. I’m fairly confident of that.”

CAN ENGLAND BRING FOOTBALL HOME?
England have never won the Euros, the furthest they have gone was in the 1968 and 1996 tournaments where they reached the semi-finals.
Is this their year? Probably not, but that’s okay:

SCOTTISH STARS STAY PUT
Six Scottish players have not travelled with the team for their friendly against The Netherlands on Wednesday.
David Marshall, Stephen O’Donnell, Nathan Patterson, Grant Hanley, John McGinn and Che Adams have not gone to the Estadio Algarve because of “ultra caution”.
This comes after John Fleck tested positive for Covid-19.

FRANK DE BOER HAPPY SCOTS ARE BACK
Netherlands manager Frank de Boer has shared his delight in Scotland playing in their first major tournament in 23 years.
Holland will play the Scots in a warm-up match on Wednesday evening.
De Boer said: “If you see them play, you see mature football with qualities. It’s not only what a lot of people in Holland think about Scottish football. No, it’s a really modern style of European football.
“I had my own experience in Scotland for six months and had a fantastic time. I know how involved the fans are. I played against Scotland in 94 and maybe Scotland and Holland have the craziest fans, but also the nicest fans in the world.
“It’s nice that Scotland is there. For all parts, it’s good.”
