What if a prophecy says your ex-boyfriend is your destiny? I met Chiamaka (not real name) in a bus going to work one day. I had been going through a really rough time because I came to Lagos to look for a job. The aunty I came to live with gave me only one month to find a job and leave her apartment. That day in the bus, it was the last day of the month that my aunty gave me, I had found a job as an event Usher but I had no place to go to when my aunty sends me away that day. I was crying in the bus and the lady beside me noticed, she was Chiamaka.

When she asked me what was wrong, I just burst out crying. I narrated my ordeal to her and we found out that we are from the same state in the East. She later explained how she had been in my position before and knows how I feel. Chiamaka gave me her address and said I could come live with her until I found my own place. That is how the friendship with Chiamaka started. Indeed, she is a nice person but she has so many flaws.
Chiama always was in debt, so my salary was her atm. Then she was a staunch drinker and smoker. She would drink in nearby beer palour and come home drunk to stupor and I will be taking care of her. Her reason for drinking was that she was 45 years old and no man to marry her. So she was fighting depression. I never judged her because I was grateful she gave me a place to stay. But things began to take a different turn not too long after.
Chiamaka was a contract staff in her office and she was always getting her salary deducted cos she was not meeting her targets. When the the time came for her house rent, she asked me to contribute 50%. I had to call my parents to borrow me N200k to add to the house rent money. Then, I met a guy who was really interested in me. This guy had a car and good job. We started hanging out and Chiamaka encouraged me to bring the guy to the house. Long story short, Chiamaka started chatting the guy behind me and I found out that the guy was sleeping with her, taking her to clubs and they would even smoke and get high together.
When I confronted Chiamaka about Segun my boyfriend that she was sleeping with., she begged me to leave him for her …that I am young ,…that I can find another man but she was old and she is desperate. Again, cos she helped me when no one did, I left Segun for her. I felt sad the days Segun would bring her home in his car. I knew I gave up my place for Chiamaka.

After about two years of living with Chiamaka, I met John. Things became great between us and with God on my side, I was able to move out of Chiamaka’s place and got my own apartment. Chiamaka was not happy that I left her cos she wanted to continue eating off me. But I had become wiser and I did not come to Lagos to count bridge.
Life gradually picked up for me but Chiamaka told me that she and Segun had broken up. The guy was tired of her lifestyle, he said she was not wife material and she also lied about her age..she told him she was 35 when she was actually 45.The break up was very hard on Chiamaka, she almost committed suicide. She drank to stupor and was unconscious for days. I felt sorry for Chiamaka.

So, you can imagine my surprise when Segun reached out to me and started apologizing to me for leaving me for Chiamaka. He said his mother (who is a prophetess) told him to go apologize to me, that he had wronged me. I met Segun’s mum when we were dating and the woman liked me. Segun’s mom has said its me that she wants to marry Segun. Segun has started begging with all kinds of expensive gifts that is really pissing John my boyfriend off. My mother called me just last week and said she dreamt where I was getting married to Segun….hahaha….abi its the money Segun sent to her that is bringing that dream?…

John got upset and said I should choose between him and Segun. Segun’s mom is always calling me everyday, saying she has prayed and God told her that I am the one for her son. Now, I am faced with two issues: one, how do I go back to a guy who left me for my older room mate? I remember nights where I had to leave the room for them cos they were f#cking. Now, he has realized he wants me after almost a year?
Secondly, how do I explain to Chiamaka that the same guy she almost gave up the ghost for is begging me to marry him? But then, she stole him from me and lied to him….and his mother is really insisting it must be me….but I still feel for Chiamaka…this might k#ll her….
