Constitution Review Report: Group tasks southeast lawmakers on realizing proposed states
A socio-political organization, Southeast Youths for Equity Alliance (SEYEA), has re-echoed the calls for the creation of additional states in the southeast region of Nigeria.
The group tasked National Assembly members from the southeast to rise to their responsibilities as duties call and prove to the people that they are genuinely in the chambers for their interest and development.
SEYEA in a press statement signed by its President, Comrade Ekeh Ifeanyi Chimezie and issued to DAILY POST on Tuesday, lauded the report of the senate committee on the review of the 1999 constitution which recommended the creation of Adada, Orashi, Etiti, Aba and Njaba States among the proposed 20 new states to be created in the country.
The southeast group vowed that it will join other like minds in ensuring no stone was left unturned in the realization of the proposed states as contained in the report of the review committee.
Recall that there have been calls for the creation of new states and bringing to equality, the number of states per each of the six geopolitical regions of the country.
SEYEA in the statement noted that “the agitations for justice, equity, fairness is gaining the desired attention following the release from the Senate committee on the 1999 constitution review which unveiled the intention of the National Assembly to create more twenty states out of which five shall be created from southeast region namely; Adada State, Orashi State, Etiti State, Aba State And Njaba State.
“While we as a progress minded youth organization commend the move and readiness of the Nigerian National Assembly in adhering to the yearnings of the people as regards state creations, we want to as well plead with them to consider other relevant recommendations made available to them by southeast youths for Equity Alliance as well as other well meaning groups and people of South East and Nigeria at large during the town hall meetings held across the Nation on the review of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
The group charged the southeast senators, members of the House of Representatives and other important personalities from the region
to pursue, lobby and as well as ensure that these five states proposed to be created out of southeast by the National Assembly are actualized to the later, adding that it will in no little way meet the yearnings of the people and put them in the good books of history and posterity.
The SEYEA also reiterated its unwavering stand for 2023 Nigerian President of southeast extraction and called on all Igbos to take the project very seriously.
