Best Manchester City victories over Manchester United
Football fans are provided with the best quality of football whenever the two Manchester sides lock horns with each other. And although the Red Devils’ overall derby record is better, Manchester City have also claimed many memorable victories over their fierce rivals.
1– Manchester City 6 Manchester United 1 (2011)
This was one of the finest performances of Manchester City against their arch-rivals United. The Citizens were so ruthless that day that the score–line could have been even more emphatic than 6-1.
Mario Balotelli opened the scoring for his side in the first half and the score–line remained 1-0 until the interval. The Italian striker found himself on the scoresheet again in the 60th minute before Sergio Aguero also struck a goal.
Darren Fletcher reduced the deficit with a goal but that only charged the Cityzens further. Substitute Edin Dzeko smashed two quick-fire goals while David Silva also added another to claim one of the biggest victories for City against the Red Devils.
2– Manchester City 1 Manchester United 0 (2011)
A record number of TV audience watched this game while many famous personalities came to the Etihad Stadium to enjoy this exciting encounter. A month earlier, the Red Devils had an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League table but now were a defeat away from dropping to the second position. For City, a victory wasn’t only necessary for earning the bragging rights but also to keep them in the title race.
Sir Alex Ferguson decided to take a more cautious approach, employing Wayne Rooney as a lone striker.However, contrary to the expectations of many online casino punters, the legendary manager’s tactics failed to produce the desired result as Vincent Kompany’stowering header in first-half stoppage time provided them a superb goal. United failed to make a comeback and the Cityzens went on to claim the three crucial points easily.
City won easily against Newcastle United but found themselves 2-1 down in the final league match against QPR with barely a few minutes remaining in the game. However, to the delight of their fans, Dzeko restored parity in injury time before Aguero came up with the most spectacular goal to clinch the Premier League title for his side.
3– Manchester City 4 Manchester United 1 (2013)
This was also one of the most memorable victories for City. The result of the game never looked in doubt as Manuel Pellegrini’s side proved themselves superior in every department.
Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure terrorized the United defence in the first half and scored one goal each before the interval. The Argentine striker added another in the next half while Samir Nasri also got on the scoresheet to make it an emphatic score-line.
