BIRTHDAY’S don’t have to just mean aging another year – they’re a great way to cash-in on freebies and discounts from all your favourite brands.

Plenty of top names offer freebies or money-off on your special day, so long as you’re signed up to their rewards scheme or newsletter.

You can usually get free grub during a meal out, or vouchers to spend down the shops.

Or you can simply get a slice of cake to celebrate, or even a free bottle of fizz to pop open in cheer.

As Christmas has come and go, and the romance is now over for anyone lucky enough to receive a gift on Valentine’s, the next thing most Brits have to look forward to is a birthday.

But were you aware you could cash-in on so many things to help you celebrate the day?

It comes as users on Facebook shared exactly how much they’d managed to snag for themselves.

One user shared on Reduce Your Supermarket Spend that they’d managed to hit six stores on their big day and claim over £20 worth of freebies.

The post racked up almost 200 likes as the bargain hunter revealed they’d got vouchers from the likes of Hotel Chocolat, The Body Shop, Hobby Craft and more.

And nothing says Happy Birthday like a free cake, which the savvy saver managed to grab at Costa as another reward on the day.

We’ve compiled some of the top deals you too can get.

Most freebies or discounts need you to simply sign up to newsletters or loyalty cards.

But they usually won’t cost a thing to join.

You should keep in mind though, that offers can change from time to time and they’re not guaranteed to come into your inbox – though they are a nice bonus when they do.

Here are some examples of what you can get to celebrate your next trip around the sun:

On the high street

Greggs

At Greggs you can get a free sweet treat on your birthday.

You might decide you go for a doughnut, which would usually set you back around 95p.

You need to have signed up for the rewards app to claim though.

It’s a free app and once you’ve input your birthday you’ll get voucher on the day that you can show in-store for one free cupcake, cream cake or doughnut.

You don’t have to just use it on your birthday either as it’s still valid for one month afterwards – but you can claim only one sweet treat, so once it’s gone, you’ll have to wait until next year.

Krispy Kreme

The birthday rewards are great if you are a doughnut lover as Krispy Kreme also offers the freebie to birthday people signed up for rewards.

If you register for the free loyalty scheme on the Krispy Kreme app, you can get a voucher to show in a Krispy Kreme store for one free doughnut of your choice.

Usually you’d have to fork out up to £2.25 for the treat, but you can claim just one for free during your whole birthday month – so if that’s in March, you’d have from March 1 until March 31 to claim.

Unfortunately you can’t claim the freebie at stands like in Tesco – it has to be a proper Krispy Kreme store.

Hotel Chocolat

Anybody who is a Hotel Chocolat VIP member gets £5 to spend at the store on their birthday.

The catch is you usually have to spend at least £5 to use it though.

It’s free to become a VIP you just have to download the free Hotel Chocolat app.

It’s valid for the month of your birthday again, but if you sign up just before your birthday is about to begin it won’t be redeemable right away, and you’ll have to wait until the next month.

The Body Shop

At The Body Shop you can get another fiver to spend on products on your birthday.

If you sign up to the free Body Shop “Love Your Body” loyalty card, on your birthday you can get £5 to spend online or in store with no minimum spend.

It lasts for a month after your birthday so you don’t have to splash out straight away, but keep in mind you won’t get any change from the £5 voucher so to get your money’s worth you’ll need to spend it in one go.

The rules are a bit stricter on this one and to be eligible have made at least one purchase using the card previously within the past 12 months.

Costa

Get a free cake on your birthday at Costa.

You have to have the free Costa Coffee app to get started though.

Once you’ve downloaded it and set up your details, you’ll also need to opt into marketing and make sure your birthday is right in settings.

When your big day arrives, open the app and check the rewards screen. A voucher will be waiting for you to use on a cake of your choice.

You can use the QR code that pops up in the space of a voucher on the app when you come to pay at the till and it’ll make your cake free for that transaction – it’ll only work once though so pick the treat wisely.

You’ve got just one week to claim it too so you’ll also have to be quick.

Hobby craft

Craft lovers can get £5 to spend at Hobby Craft on their birthday too.

You register online, handing over the details of your birthday, and once you’re all signed up to the free Hobbycraft loyalty card, you’ll get your voucher.

There’s no minimum spend but you only have two weeks to use it after your birthday – so you’ll need to cash-in quickly.

Out for dinner

Frankie and Benny’s

If you’re treating yourself to dinner at Frankie and Benny’s to celebrate the big day you can get a free main meal or a bottle of prosecco for just £10.

The catch is you have to buy another meal to redeem, but if you’re out celebrating with friends and family and there’s plenty of you at the table it’s a no brainer.

Register with Frankie and Benny’s Rewards to get a voucher for the freebie or discounted fizz – but make sure you do it far enough in advance as it’ll come 10 days before the big day.

It works for 50 days though so you’ll have plenty of time to cash-in on the meal out.

Pizza Express

You can get a free bottle of prosecco on your birthday at Pizza Express.

You’ll have to buy two main meals to claim the bottle of fizz, but it could save you forking out for something to wash your dinner down with on the special day.

To redeem the freebie in the first place you’ll need to be signed up to the Pizza Express newsletter.

You’ll only get the one bottle for the table and it’s only valid for the two weeks leading up to your birthday or after it, so don’t leave it too long to cash-in.

Down the shops

Morrisons

Shoppers have revealed they could claim 30% off flowers in-store at Morrisons on their birthday.

You’ll need to sign up for a More card and shop at Morrisons on your birthday to claim the offer.

But the heavy discount could make a great present to self on the day, or cash-in your own reward for someone else’s close birthday while you’re out celebrating your own.

Lidl

At Lidl you can get a free cookie on your birthday.

The Lidl bakery is everybody’s favourite part of the discount supermarket, but save forking out 39p on a cookie on your big day, and get it for free instead with the reward app.

You’ll need to be signed up on Lidl’s free app to its Lidl Plus scheme – the free cookie coupon will appear on the app on your birthday ready for you to redeem.

But there’s only a week to cash-in so you’ll have to be speedy if you don’t want to miss out on this one.
