Kyle Richards, Kathy Hilton’s ‘RHOBH’ Season 12 Feud: Everything to Know

Keeping it in the family? Kyle Richards and Kathy Hilton‘s relationship has seen its fair share of ups and downs over the years — and filming season 12 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills wasn’t any different.

The tension between the sisters came to a head during a cast trip to Aspen in a September episode of the Bravo series. At the time, Lisa Rinna offered a glimpse at what went down between her and Kathy, 63.

“My head is definitely in a fog after what happened last night. It’s way worse than a hangover. We were at the club and Kathy was having an absolute meltdown. I’ve never seen anything like this in my life,” Lisa, 59, told the cameras. “I am not saying a whole lot ’cause I’m still in shock from what I experienced. It’s not something that I would’ve ever imagined coming from anyone in this group, let alone Kathy Hilton.”

According to the former soap star, Kathy started to vent about her issues with Kyle, 53, amid the night out. “She’s screaming she ‘made’ Kyle. Kathy’s responsible for Kyle and she said, ‘I will destroy Kyle and her family if it’s the last thing I ever do,'” Lisa claimed.

The Halloween Ends star, for her part, was confused by her older sister’s decision not to address their issues.

After previously mending fences before Kathy joined the Bravo series, the Little House on the Prairie alum admitted that she was expecting a different response. “I really, honestly believed that we would never go to a bad place ever again,” Kyle explained in the same episode. “And I don’t know how I can fix this.”

Two months prior, Kathy opened up about how her “personal conversation” was not something she expected to have filmed. “I was frustrated. There’s not an excuse for it,” she exclusively told Us Weekly in July 2022 about what went down off screen. “I was doing all the press for Paris in Love, [which included] daytime talk shows and evening talk shows. Then I had to get up at 4 a.m. and get to the airport [for] a flight to L.A., then wait around for three hours to get a flight to Aspen. I felt like I was overtired, high altitude and a little sensitive.”

Looking back at the situation, Kathy expressed regret at how she approached things. “I thought it was a private conversation and I just wanted somebody to say to me, ‘Look, you two love each other. Everything will be fine. You’re just overtired,” she added. “I just wanted someone to vent to. And I guess that what I’ve learned is — I love both my sisters. I love them. They’re my blood, and I never should have said anything to anybody.”

While filming season 12, Kyle and Kathy found themselves at odds during a cast trip to Aspen. Even though most of the issues weren’t caught on camera, the mom of four and her friends addressed Kathy’s behavior onscreen. The socialite, for her part, has not yet acknowledged the rift between her and Kyle on the show.

In the aftermath of the Aspen trip, all of the RHOBH cast members broke down what they witnessed when Kathy seemed to vent about Kyle to the others. Viewers did not catch Kathy’s interactions with the women, but the costars discussed the situation on camera.

Erika Jayne, Rinna, Sutton Stracke, Diana Jenkins and Dorit Kemsley all expressed their concerns about Kathy’s behavior. Meanwhile, Crystal Minkoff and Garcelle Beauvais questioned the accounts of what went down.

In September 2022, Crystal discussed her reaction to the drama during a confessional, saying, “I’ve known Kathy for a long time, more than some of the other girls in the group. Like how bad could the behavior have been?”

After the Aspen trip episode aired, Kyle reflected on how “affected” she was by the ups and downs with her sister. “I was just sort of like, ‘No, I don’t want this to be going in this direction.’ It’s too painful for me,” she shared in a Bravo after show clip. “So, so much for my happy place [in Aspen]. It’s still my happy place. I just want to be clear about that. But that was not a happy time at all.”

Lisa later detailed the alleged meltdown she witnessed, saying, “It was a barrage of, ‘I f–king can’t believe that I have to be around you f–king peons. I don’t like them, why do I have to be with them? They need to go away. They’re idiots.'”

The former soap actress claimed Kathy called Crystal and Sutton “pieces of s–t” and referred to Dorit as “a stupid, useless idiot.”

After producer Alex Baskin shared the explosive reunion trailer via Instagram, the two sisters weighed in about their drama.

“Why is she upset and crying? I’m the one who [was] bullied and percacuted [sic] for 10 months,” Kathy wrote via Instagram comment in October 2022. “Just cruel and disgusting.”

Richards, for her part, disagreed with her sibling’s perspective. She replied: “Why? You know exactly why.”

At the People’s Choice Awards in November 2022, Kathy told Access Hollywood that she hadn’t spoken to her sister recently.

“I have not talked to [Kyle] in a while. We’ve texted, but I have not talked to her for a while,” she said.

Kyle also walked the red carpet for the event, telling Extra, “We could be better, but we are sisters and at the end of the day we always come together, but we could be better and that’s what I want, that’s what I need in my life — to feel good.”
