Country Singer Jake Flint’s Death: Everything We Know
Country singer Jake Flint died at age 37, hours after marrying his wife, Brenda Flint, in Oklahoma on Saturday, November 26.
“We should be going through wedding photos but instead I have to pick out clothes to bury my husband in,” Brenda wrote in a heartbreaking post via Facebook on Tuesday, November 29. “People aren’t meant to feel this much pain. My heart is gone and I just really need him to come back. I can’t take much more. I need him here.” One day prior, she shared a video with her late husband seemingly taken at their wedding. “I don’t understand,” she penned.
The “What’s Your Name?” artist, who was best known for his music in the Oklahoma Red Dirt scene, died in his sleep, his publicist, Clif Doyal, told The Oklahoman on Monday, November 28. A cause of death has not yet been determined, per the publication.
Prior to his death, Jake — who released his sophomore, self-titled album in 2020 — was set to play a number of shows around his home state of Oklahoma in the coming days. His manager, Brenda Cline, spoke of their upcoming plans together in her tribute to the late musician.
“We were just about to embark on some business together after he and Brenda got married- which was yesterday. Yes-yesterday,” Cline wrote in her Monday, November 28 post announcing Jake’s death. “Jake has a million friends and I’m not sure how everyone will cope with this tragic loss. We need prayers- it’s all so surreal. Please please pray for his new wife Brenda, Jake’s precious mother, his sister and the rest of his family and friends. This is going to be incredibly difficult for so many. We love you Jake and in our hearts forever. 💔.”
Both Cline and Doyal shared their affection for the late musician, with his manager stating that she “loved him much like a son” and the publicist calling him a “dear friend and just a super nice guy.”
“As you can see from the outpouring on social media, he was loved by everybody,” Doyal told The Oklahoman on Monday. “I think a lot of it was just that he was a people person, and he had an amazing sense of humor. He made everybody laugh, and he made everybody feel welcome.”
Cline, for her part, called the Oklahoma native “the funniest, most hilarious, hardest working, dedicated artist I have ever worked with in my career.”
Fellow Oklahoma musician Mike McClure also paid tribute to the late artist, telling The Oklahoman that Jake “was just a straight-up good dude and not only worked on his own music but tried to help pave the way for some other artists that hadn’t really recorded yet.”
