Opinion: Why Osimhen should be Chelsea next attacking piece after Sterling’s capture
The transfer window is now getting to the serious stages with clubs around the world either finalizing or walking away from deals.
Chelsea has swung into transfer action as England and Manchester City prolific winger Raheem Sterling was unveiled as a new Blues player on Wednesday.
The Stamford Bridge outfit are undergoing a huge squad overhaul with senior figures like Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen joining the two biggest Spanish teams and question marks over the futures of Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso.
In the attack, Hakim Ziyech has been linked with a move to AC Milan while Romelu Lukaku has rejoined Inter Milan on loan.
Christian Pulisic has had a big share of injuries and Timo Werner has been unconvincing in front of goal.
This is why Raheem Sterling is being signed. However, the attacking puzzle is not yet complete.
Chelsea’s failure to lure Raphinha to the club is well documented. This means a left-footed winger is still needed on that flank to free Ziyech who has not really staked a claim to the position.
To complete the puzzle, two more players are still needed and allnigeriasoccer thinks Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen should be the next piece with the reason explained.
The Napoli hitman belongs to a category of modern strikers known as “physical playmakers”. He is good on the ball and has great combinational play which helps him bring the attackers forward in settled play.
Combining with the Raheem Sterling who is a master of the half-space and one on one isolations due to his re-education under Pep Guardiola is a salivating prospect.
Sterling’s out-to-in dribbles and last-line breaking passes into a machine like Osimhen are certainly frightening to think about.
The knockdowns and line-breaking passes into Sterling in space would also be devastating.
With the likes of Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic and so on as a base, Chelsea’s attack has the potential to click into one of the best in the league and one of the best in Europe if the third piece is added.
While Osimhen’s reported price tag of 100 million euros is a bit excessive, the Blues can try to negotiate to bring it down.
