Mabel hits back at men who dumped her with scathing lyrics on new album
MABEL’S new boyfriend must have pulled out all the stops to woo her.
That’s because she takes no prisoners when she sings about blokes on her upcoming album.
I can reveal the collection will feature a string of songs taking aim at her former love interests and insisting that men shower her in designer goods if they want to keep her attention.
On track Good Luck, Mabel — who is currently dating the son of former Spurs footballer Garth Crooks, Preye — sings: “Boys are so wild, they think the grass is greener, then they realise . . . ”
On another called Let Love Go, which is expected to be her next single, she sings: “Staying by the phone, hoping you’ll call, only to find you never missed me at all. So I need to let love go, cause it ain’t giving me what I deserve.”
‘Expensive taste’
Her second album, due this year, will feature last year’s self-empowerment single Let Them Know, and that’s a theme she continues on other tracks.
In the chorus of a track called Definition, she belts out: “Look at me, ’cause I’m the definition of a good girl, bad bitch. Nothing like your average, something like a savage. Look no further, I’m the definition of legendary, extraordinary. Check your dictionary, you’ll see me. ‘Cause I’m theе definition of a boss.”
And in the song Money On Me she slams cheapskates and insists she will only date guys who are willing to flash the cash.
She sings: “You like my style and you like my face, but I’m a girl with expensive taste. You see when it comes to me, I’mma need a couple Gs. You ain’t got it then be on your way, give me the shoes with the matching purse. Mr Jimmy Choo is what I deserve.”
Mabel — who is expected to hit the Top Ten on Friday with her Joel Corry collaboration, I Wish — had been in a long-distance relationship with US actor Rome Flynn while writing her new album earlier last year.
But clearly things with new man Preye are going better as they spent Christmas together, despite only being together for a matter of months. The Sun revealed the pair had started dating in November after meeting through work, with Preye an executive at Sony who runs the Strawberries & Creem Festival.
At the time pals reckoned the pair’s lifestyles complemented each other, with one saying: “He’s not threatened by her success and gets her hectic schedule They’re a great match.” If those song lyrics are anything to go by, Preye must have left her some very flashy gifts underneath Mabel’s tree.
DOJA’S A PUSS IN FUR BOOTS
LOTS of people will be heading back to work today but there was no break for Doja Cat over the festive period.
She started 2022 as she intends to go on, with a jam-packed schedule, by performing in this all-white outfit on New Year’s Day.
But she probably didn’t need the chunky winter boots she had on, given her gig was on a luxury island in the Bahamas.
Doja had also performed in Florida the night before too, so I can imagine she raked in a fortune for her weekend of shows.
The Say So singer had an amazing 2021, with her album Planet Her having stayed in the Top 40 ever since she released it in July, spending 15 weeks in the Top Ten.
However, I’m expecting even bigger things from her in the coming months, with a tour in the pipeline and new music.
ADELE AND ED WERE 2021’s No1s TO WATCH
ADELE’s fourth record 30 was only released six weeks before the end of 2021, but it was such a huge success that it has been named the year’s best-selling album in the UK.
She sold more than 600,000 copies to pip Ed Sheeran to the title, although his album Equals was at No2 in the list and his song Bad Habits was crowned the year’s biggest-selling single.
Seven of the ten artists in the albums top ten were British, but it was ABBA who scored the highest-selling international album with Voyage, ahead of Olivia Rodrigo‘s Sour.
Elsewhere there was continued success for Dua Lipa‘s Future Nostalgia, while greatest hits collections from Queen, Elton John and Fleetwood Mac remained hugely popular.
Olivia had two songs in the top ten singles of the year, with Good 4 U and Drivers License at No2 and No3 respectively.
The American star is expected to clear up at the Grammy’s next month, with nominations in all four major categories – Best Album, Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year for Driver’s License.
Speaking about the secret to her success with British Vogue last month, Olivia said: “Write from your heart and write as much as you possibly can. From your life and relationships.”
Lil Nas X, The Weeknd and Glass Animals also feature in the list, as do Tion Wayne and Russ Millions who had a No1 with Body after it went viral on TikTok. According to new data, streaming now accounts for 83 per cent of music consumption in the UK.

OMARION GOES VIRAL
OMARION has poked fun at the jokes linking his name to that of the latest Covid-19 variant.
Users on social media have been making gags by referring to the Omicron strain using the Ice Box singer’s name.
Making light of it on TikTok, Omarion said: “Hi everybody, this is Omarion. I am an artist, not a variant.
“So please be aware that if you just so happen to run into me on the street, you don’t have to isolate for five days, nor do you have to have a negative test result in order to dance to my music. So please, be safe, be healthy, happy new year.”
WINNIE WARMS UP WINTER
SUMMER is months away but bikini sales must already be up among showbiz circles..
Winnie Harlow posed in this checked swimwear on a boat in Dubai, where up-and-coming British musician Bree Runway also kicked off her year.
The Hot Hot singer shared a snap of herself on Instagram with shades on to flaunt her sunny getaway, as did Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo.
The former Strictly star posed with a cocktail in one hand while wearing a huge floppy hat in a photo shared from her own holiday in the Caribbean. Jamaican me very jealous, Clara.
BOSSES’ NAS RAP
LIL NAS X has rounded on music bosses and claimed they attempt to “sanitise” music from LGBT artists.
Speaking on US TV the Montero singer said he felt he was “definitely more out there” than some openly gay musicians and laid the blame at the door of the industry. He said: “It’s always been, ‘Okay, if you’re gay, this needs to be sanitised.
Let’s not include anything sexual.’ It’s like, ‘Be gay without being gay. We don’t want to know what happens behind closed doors, or we don’t want you to express that.’”
US rapper Nas came out in 2019 and said he chose to speak publicly about his sexuality in part because of the success of hit song Old Town Road from that year.
He added: “I honestly felt like it was kind of my duty. Especially if I wanted to move forward. And with what I was doing, because authenticity is very real, and I feel like people can see right through that. And that’s a part of me.”
PUGH’S THAT GIRL
MADONNA said back in September Florence Pugh was on the shortlist to play her on screen.
If she sees this snap, she’ll give Florence the part on the spot.
The actress was the spit of Eighties-era Madonna in this snap on Instagram.
Florence posted of her New Year’s Eve: “It was a night I’ve been nursing ever since. And you f**king bet I never once fell over in these things . . . ”
I hope she’d recovered in time to celebrate turning 26 yesterday.
That’s the age Madge was when she released her second album, Like A Virgin, in 1984.
Hannah’s reinvention
AS part of S CLUB 7, Hannah Spearritt had four No1 singles and sold millions of albums.
These days you’re more likely to find her reaching for a wheatgrass smoothie than reaching for the stars. Hannah is reinventing herself as a nutrition/wellness guru.
Announcing her new business, she wrote: “I will be offering a combination of creative projects as well as holistic nutrition and lifestyle coaching (once I’ve finished my studies and graduated in March!) .
“All my work is inspired with the elements and the seasons, and how we can integrate more into nature. Studying and developing my plans while bringing up my two little girls hasn’t been easy but it feels like 2022 is going to be a big year.”
Her ex-bandmate Rachel Stevens will take to the rink when Dancing On Ice returns in a few weeks. Hannah can help out if she gets injured . . .
