President Muhammadu Buhari has described the call for the unconditional release of the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, as heavy.
Naija News reports that the Nigerian leader stated that interfering in Kanu’s trial will be unlawful and contravene the powers of the Judiciary.
He made this known on Friday while receiving an Igbo delegation led by former Minister of Aviation, Mbazulike Amaechi, at State House, Abuja.
Some members of the delegation are former Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Bishop Sunday Onuoha of the Methodist Church, former President of Igbo socio-cultural group, Aka Ikenga, Goddy Uwazurike and Tagbo Amaechi.
Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku has lamented the insecurity in many parts of the country, adding that the state governors have been left incapacitated.
Ishaku lamented that there is very little the state governors can do to control the security situation in their respective states since the power to control security agencies resides in the federal government.
The Taraba State Governor who again used the opportunity to reiterate the calls for state policing made his views known on Thursday while reacting to the attack by Ambazonia fighters, a separatist group from Cameroon on a part of his state.
A member of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses and other matters, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, on Friday stated that the report submitted by the panel to the state government is defended by documents.
Naija News had earlier reported that the panel submitted a report to the state government on Monday.
The panel in its report disclosed that security operatives killed eleven people at the Lekki tollgate on October 20, 2020.
The counsel for the Lagos State Government, Abiodun Owonikoko, days after the report was submitted, however, claimed that the report contains at least 40 discrepancies.
No fewer than seventy-seven thousand Nigerians have signed a petition that seeks to have President Muhammadu Buhari tried and jailed over the killings of peaceful protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate last year October.
Naija News understands that the petition initiated by former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri, on the change.org platform has continued to receive hundreds of signatures with many citizens giving reasons for pending their signatures.
The petition which was started on Wednesday was directed at the International Criminal Court.
This comes after the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led government #EndSARS panel indicted President Buhari’s administration in its report.
The Chief Whip of the Senate, Sen. Orji Kalu, has cautioned the Igbo speaking people against hating President Muhammadu Buhari.
Kalu while interacting with journalists in Abuja on Friday, said the President has done a lot for the region and would do even more before his tenure elapsed.
The lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District boasted that his zone had given Buhari more votes in the previous election and are ready to do more if given another opportunity.
Kalu stressed that the zone had enjoyed an unwavering relationship with the president, adding that Abia North Senatorial zone is the only zone in the South-East and South-South that gave Buhari 68 percent votes in the 2019 general elections.
The case against the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has been adjourned to December 10, 2021.
Presiding today at the Abia State High Court, the court judge, Justice Benson Anya, barred security agencies from arresting anybody who appear at the court to witness Kanu’s proceedings.
Naija News understands that Justice Anya also issued an order restraining security agencies from crowding the court premises whenever the case of the embattled Biafran agitator is heard before the court.
Justice Anya is understood to have issued the directive after witnessing the presence of over 100 security operatives who surrounded the premises of Abia on Friday.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, mediated the talks between the government and the ASUU.
The settlement follows ASUU’s threat to embark on another strike if the federal government does not honour its commitments.
Gbajabiamila stated: “It will be irresponsible of us, as leaders, to sit and watch things deteriorate. We have to be mindful of the unintended consequences of this planned strike action that can be far-reaching, knowing how important education is to the children and the future of our country.”
Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has promised to get justice for the Nigerian lady who died in an Ivorian prison, Itunu Babalola.
Naija News reports that Babalola got into trouble when her apartment in Bondoukou, Cote d’Ivoire was burgled in September 2019.
Things took a new twist when she reported the burglary incident to the Ivorian police. Babalola was arrested and accused of human trafficking after refusing to bribe the police.
The Muhammadu Buhari government has been accused of planning to kill the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.
IPOB, in a statement on Friday issued by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, alleged that it uncovered the sinister plot to kill its leader through intelligence.
Powerful claimed that the Nigerian government has concluded plans to assassinate its leader and declare a state of emergency in the South-East.
Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State has denied being responsible for the attack on a faction of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, backed by the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.
Naija News reports that suspected thugs attacked members of the faction during their weekly meeting at Oranmiyan House, Gbongan Road, Osogbo.
It was learned that the thugs bearing guns arrived at the venue in a black Sienna Bus around 2.09pm, fired shots into the air and moved towards the entrance to the building.
Speaking after the incident, the factional chairman of the group, Lowo Adebiyi, accused the governor of being responsible for the attack.
