The Federal Government on Tuesday stated that schools across the country will resume on January 18, 2021, until a fresh directive by the Ministry of Education.

Naija News that this was made known by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.

Recall that the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, had said the Federal Government would review the date fixed for resumption of schools.

Speaking on a television programme, PTF National Coordinator, Dr Sani Aliyu said the minister did not say the date has been changed.

The Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, has warned that the federal government may impose a fresh nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Naija News reports that the Minister stated this while speaking during the 2021 budget breakdown in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to her, the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration will be left with no other option but to impose another lockdown if COVID-19 cases keep rising.

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has boasted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will teach developed nations how to play politics.
The governor stated this on Tuesday at the national secretariat of the APC in Abuja where he was inaugurated as Chairman of Women and Youth Sensitization and Mobilization Committee of the party.

Yahaya Bello said by the time the ruling APC is done with its membership registration and revalidation exercise, it would call on developed nations to come and learn from Nigeria.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Tuesday ordered the redeployment of 21 Commissioners of Police to new commands and formations.

The Deputy spokesman of the force, CSP Aremu Adeniran, noted that the redeployments of the commissioners is with immediate effect.

Those affected include CP Adeleke Bode who was posted to Kebbi State; Philip Maku (Special Protection Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja); Ali Aji (Sokoto); Ohikere Idris (Armament, FHQ, Abuja); Daniel Sokari-Pedro (Commandant, Police College, Ikeja) and John Amadi (Port Authority Western, Lagos).

A military court-martial sitting in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Tuesday, ordered a soldier, Azunna Maduabuchi to death by firing squad for killing his commander, Lieutenant Babakaka Ngorgi.

The military court ruled after finding him guilty that the decision follows the provision of Section 106 of the Armed Forces Act.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has stated that it is working on the type and quantity of COVID-19 vaccines to procure.

Naija News reports that this was stated by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed.

The Minister made this known on Tuesday during a virtual public presentation of the 2021 appropriation bill.

The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Umar Ibrahim Tsauri has expressed confidence that many defectors including former Speaker Yakubu Dogara and Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi will return to the party before 2023.

Tsauri in his submission said he is so confident of this because he knows the All Progressives Congress (APC) has nothing to offer them, and it’s only a matter of time before they realize this.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Tuesday disclosed why it insisted on reopening universities in the middle of a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

Naija News had earlier reported that the National Universities Commission directed universities to resume academic activities on January 18.

ASUU, however, is calling on the federal government to review the directive as COVID-19 cases increase across the country.

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), has launched an electronic process for company registration and certificate generation in Nigeria.

This was disclosed to newsmen in Abuja on Monday by the Registrar-General of the Commission, Alhaji Garba Abubakar.

According to the CAC boss, the online registration portal was launched on January 3, 2021 in compliance with the provisions of the new Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA).

The Police Command in Yobe State has confirmed it has detained a man in custody for alleged involvement in the death of an 18-year-old girl during a suspected sex romp in the Yobe State government lodge.

The Police revealed that a man, identified as Dr. Albash with whom the girl was in the room before she died is already in detention.

The Yobe State Police spokesperson, Abdulkareem Dungus said Albash is being held for suspected homicide, adding that the man who claims to be a staff of the Ministry of Police Affairs reported the case himself at the ‘B’ Division in Damaturu, the State capital.
