Who is Dua Lipa’s ‘fiancé’ Callum Turner? Inside the pop star’s whirlwind romance with the Fantastic Beasts actor

Dua Lipa is said to be engaged to Callum Turner after he ‘got down on one knee for a romantic proposal’ over Christmas.

The Fantastic Beasts actor, 34, has been making a name for himself in Hollywood with a string of high-profile roles and has also garnered a new legion of fans thanks to his romance with chart-topper Dua, 29.  

The couple. who have been dating for over a year, quietly got engaged and are planning to celebrate with their friends and family on New Year’s Eve.

A source told The Sun: ‘Dua and Callum are so in love and know this is forever. They are engaged and couldn’t be happier.

‘Dua has had one of the best years of her career professionally and this is the cherry on the cake.

‘Callum is such a solid support for Dua and they make a wonderful couple. Their family and friends are so happy. It’s been an amazing Christmas for them.’ 

But who is Dua’s loved-up boyfriend and reportedly now fiancé, Callum Turner? Here is everything you need to know about the pop star’s whirlwhind romance with the Fantastic Beasts actor.

Who is Dua Lipa’s ‘fiancé’ Callum Turner?

While he’s not as big of a household name as his London-born girlfriend, Callum has gone from strength to strength in his acting career, securing parts in the Fantastic Beasts film series and in 2020’s Emma alongside Anya Taylor-Joy.

He has also bagged big roles in the likes of The Boys in the Boat with George Clooney, BBC thriller The Capture, and The Only Living Boy In New York, alongside Kate Beckinsale.

Callum is one of the principal cast members of Second World War drama Masters Of The Air, which also stars Austin, Barry Keoghan and boasts Steven Spielberg as a producer.

Last month, Callum was named Louis Vuitton’s newest brand ambassador, as he announced the news alongside a striking photoshoot. 

One of his first modeling breaks saw him walk the runway for Louis Vuitton in their 2009 spring/summer Menswear show. 

Callum gushed that he was thrilled to be partnering with the luxury fashion house again as he admitted it was a ‘full circle’ moment. 

But his lavish lifestyle of red carpets, designer outfits and a famous girlfriend are a world away from his humble working-class beginnings, when he grew up on a London council estate with his single mother Rosemary.

As a child, he dreamt of playing football and even switched schools from one in Putney to another further away in Sheen because it boasted an AstroTurf football pitch, reported The Times.

Callum – who’s said his contact with his father growing up was ‘loose’ – left sixth-form college before taking his A levels and went on to play for a semi-professional football team.

However, his dream of playing for his beloved team Chelsea was eventually squashed, with Callum admitting to The Independent in 2020: ‘I’m not a professional athlete. Very simple. I was incredibly dedicated, I just wasn’t a footballer.’

Soon his handsome face, along with a friend of his mother who worked in the fashion industry, secured him modelling gigs, including for Burberry, according to The Times.

During his modelling career he worked in Japan, where he’d have six pieces of tuna for lunch because he ‘had to lose loads of weight’. His natural waist is apparently 34 inches, but designers wanted 28.

Through the ages of 18 and 26, Callum ‘was a big stoner’, previously telling The Independent: ‘I used to smoke so much weed.

‘I was acting, doing films, and smoking weed every day. I never smoked on set but as soon as I got home, I was like a real addict. I definitely missed four years of my life,’ he added.

He said it was a ‘determination to change and not miss my life’ that made him eventually ditch the addiction.

When aged 21, he turned to acting, but he insisted in 2019 that ‘there was never some grand plan’.

But that doesn’t mean he didn’t work hard, explaining to The Independent: ‘I think the thing about being working class and having no money is that you actually have to have another job.

‘I worked three jobs; I worked in two different shops, and I worked in a bar just to pay my rent,’ he explained.

The actor would spend four days a week working, while the other three were dedicated to acting, by either watching films, taking courses or going to the theatre.

But his hard work has clearly paid off, with Callum appearing in a host of popular TV shows and films.

He’s also co-starred alongside Eddie Redmayne in the Fantastic Beasts series and James Norton in TV’s War & Peace. One of his early roles saw him play opposite Helen McCrory in ITV’s Leaving (2012), a drama about an age-gap relationship.

How long have Dua Lipa and Callum Turner been together?

Dua and Callum first sparked romance rumors earlier this year in January when both attended a Masters Of The Air afterparty in London.

At the time, an insider told Page Six: ‘It’s new, but they’re mad about each other… She was at the premiere to support him.’

The pair were spotted slow dancing with one another after heading out for a date night, and went on to be seen together at many post-award ceremony events. 

Dua and Callum have been turning heads since they went public with their romance at the beginning of the year and are slowly but surely becoming the hottest ‘It-couple’ in Los Angeles. 

They eventually went Instagram official in the summer, with Callum being spotted supporting his singer girlfriend as she headlined Glastonbury. 

Right from the beginning, they couldn’t keep their hands off each other and have been spotted putting on PDA-packed displays in public and all over Instagram ever since.

Prior to making her relationship public, the Dance the Night songstress revealed during promotion for her album Radical Optimism that she had to find her ‘confidence’ again after previous relationships had gone awry.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, she revealed: ‘In terms of relationships, I needed to get to this place in order to find what I really needed. 

‘You have to be in the act of forgiveness and growing and learning, and being okay with the past in order to move on with what’s to come next.

‘So it’s, for me, Happy for You is a beautiful, happy song, because it’s so reflective of my journey.

‘I think with every relationship, with every experience you learn about yourself, you learn about things that are hurtful to you, what you expect, what you should be ready to give as well.

‘I think, again, it goes back to that exchange of vulnerability.

‘I think I’ve had relationships which have been really hurtful, especially earlier on, where I feel like I’ve been made to feel like not good enough or have made me lose my confidence and I’ve had to find that again.

‘ You learn about your own non-negotiables. I think that’s an important thing. It’s of course the right person, but it’s really about the right relationship.

‘You find that in friendships and in love relationships as well, of your non-negotiables.’

Who else has Callum Turner dated? 

Dua isn’t the only famous face Callum has dated. He was in a romantic relationship with The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby until the pair called time on their relationship in 2019.  

They met when performing in 2014’s Queen And Country, getting together the following year. But it wasn’t until 2017 that they went public, however, after Vanessa was linked to Tom Cruise.

She was shooting scenes with the Hollywood action star for Mission: Impossible – Fallout, in which she had to share a passionate kiss with him.

Those witnessing it believed it was a little too convincing and wondered whether the pair were involved off-screen too.

But to shut down these rumours, Vanessa explained she was dating Callum – revealing he was getting texts from friends asking if he was okay. She also described him at the time as ‘completely wonderful’ and her ‘best friend’.

In February 2020, reps reportedly told The Sun that the couple had parted ways, with a source telling the publication: ‘Vanessa and Callum are both rising stars in the acting world and in the last few years they have been flooded with offers.

‘It’s a really exciting time for them both. But as their careers have taken off, their relationship has suffered and they have gradually grown apart. It’s very sad as they were once so close.

‘Last year they made the difficult decision to go their separate ways and they both think its for the best. It’s all very amicable – things just weren’t working out.’
