Don Jazzy expressed his regret at not being able to sign Afrobeats superstar Wizkid. He revealed that the opportunity slipped away because Banky W, the CEO of EME Records, had already taken the chance to sign Wizkid. Undoubtedly, the combination of Wizkid’s talent and Don Jazzy‘s mentorship could have created musical magic.
Another major artist Don Jazzy mentioned was Davido. Despite having the opportunity to sign him, Don Jazzy made the decision not to. Don Jazzy revealed his admiration for Simi’s talent and expressed his regret at not signing her. Simi has since risen to prominence in the Nigerian music industry with her unique style and captivating vocals. Although Don Jazzy did not mention it in the interview, he did reveal in his words, “We almost had a deal.” This statement refers to his near collaboration with rapper Falz The Bahd Guy. In his words, “I like Simi, I didn’t sign her. I wish I did. I like Teni, but I didn’t sign her. I wish I did. I had the opportunity of signing Davido but I didn’t because I kind of figured that he would be fine. Wizkid, obviously, I couldn’t because Banky W got to him first. That would have been amazing.
