Crop farmers are fully dependent on rainfall to produce crop. Rain fall also have specific season when it fall.

Hence every farmer target to plant their crop at that season. Automatically every farmer get to harvest their farm produce at the same season too.

This leads to plenty food in circulation which them lead to low price

Taking advantage of that low food stuff price area are suppliers and middle men that buys in quantity to store for some period of time after Wich they sell back to the same market.

Once the bulk of the farm produce is harvested, it begins to reduce in quantity as people's are buying On yearly basis, food crops are always going for a very low price at harvest period. Sometimes they even go to waste

Why?

The price start going up as soon as the quantity start reducing

By then the foodstuff is no more with the farmer but with middle men or suppliers

By the 3rd or sixth month, the price is far gone. Some people store their food stuff for 6 - 12 months while some sell off at just a slight increase in price

You will be surprised to know that price of some foodstuff double even just a month after harvesting.

The longer the storage period the higher the price cause farmers are not planting again until the coming year.

Storage business (Warning to the investors)

Storage like any other business has it up and down depending on the year. But in the storage business, you need one thing to succeed that's consistency.

Grains storage is not all rosy every year. You make a loss some years when there is a glut in the market or when a lot of other people stored hence excess supply. Some years it's extra good, other years it's bad.

I will not encourage you to store any agro products in the Northern market because of what has happened in the past when markets were set ablaze during farmers' herder's crisis and goods worth millions were lost,

Again, storing your bought produce in a highly volatile environment is not advisable be it Fulani, Tiv, or Eggon community as all of them can spring surprise attacks on one another.

Pls and pls don't give anybody your money to keep on your behalf, No matter how much you will spend on the waybill, try and move your grains to your destination. I know what I am saying there were a lot of cases where the agent run away with people's money.

I have many people that stored melon in Nasarawa state some years back, there was a communal clash between the Egon and the Fulanis, and the clash gets to the market where investors (non-locals) have to stake their resources, all their earned money gone to the clash.

There was one man in Taraba state who bought 500 bags of beans years back and leave them with the agent, the agent sold everything and run away with the money.

There was another case in the dawanau market, where one man bought sorghum worth 500k years back and entrusted it to one Alhaji, when the time to sell come, no sorghum, no money!.

However, if you are a beginner, find a place in your house to start from somewhere if you don't have money for a warehouse or bigger shop to rent, you will have the rest of mind than to entrust your earned money to someone.

*The Money You Are Looking For Might Be In Food Storage Business*

Food storage business is one of the most lucrative aspect in agriculture.

Many business moguls who have discovered this particular process have reaped wonders from it. Many businessmen don’t understand or even invest in this because of processing and storage information which they lack.

Some agricultural products usually appreciate with time because the ratio of supply to demand of such commodities always decreases exponentially with time. This is a wonderful business strategy with low level of risk.

Let's take for example Ogbono

Ogbono: Ogbono is a highly nutritious food which is consumed in almost all West African countries

It has three major harvest periods in west Africa;

September harvest (usually from Nigeria) January harvest (usually from Ivory Coast) March harvest (mainly from Cameroon)

If a businessman from Nigeria can buy this Ogbono from farmers around September and store it till December or he buy it from Cameroon around March and store up to July, he will make up to 100% profit and even more.

Finally, you can make farm produce storage your business and make it big.

By recycling your cash from one produce to another, for instance, you can store palm oil in April -May sell around November-December and reinvest into grains such as soya beans which will be sold by march -April with profit.

All you need to succeed in food storage business is the right information if not you may likely lose money which has happened to some people.

If you are interested in making money in agric food storage business is one business you should consider especially for people who don't have time and strength for farming.

Making money in food storage business is easy but just like every other business it also has it's own challenges there are some time you can make good profits some other time you don't.

However, it is still lucrative way to make money if your interest is to make money.

Food storage business is about time and season.

Knowing the right time to buy during it's season and the right time to sell during scarcity.

Wrong timing and season is why people lose money or gain little profit because they bought when it late or sold too early

In April/May, red oil is up for storage to be sold from November. In June, in some places, plantain: unripe is cut and dried to be sold as plantain flour when plantain becomes expensive from December to March the following year.

In July, Egusi is beginning to come up for storage to be sold from January/February the following year (for us that started buying in September). In June, onions is up for storage. To be sold in December.

In November, gin, beans, rice, maize, soya beans, bambara nuts (okpa seed) are up for storage to be sold from March - July the following year ( Ekong John)

For you to succeed in this business you need to understand

1. The Harvesting Period Of That Farm Crop.

It is during this period you buy cheaper

2. Where You Can Buy It Cheaper

3. How To Store

This is very important because most people lose money to spoilage because they don't know how to store

4. The type of that particular farm crop they consume in your location

E.g In South West, they prefer the brown beans to the white beans, they prefer the reddis brown onions to the white onions.
